Picture in your mind's eye John McCain vs Barack Obama in the general election
On one side you've got a man, albeit a prune-faced mean-spirited man, with a vast long history of foreign policy experience plus all his other decades of experience at a time when this country is still at war, unfortunately.

On the other side we've got a man who's popular for his visions of hope but doesn't have a single iota of foreign experience.

All McCain has to do is say "Bang!" and the election is his.

9. The Repukes have been creating ammunition against Hillary for...
Eight years. Can you imagine what their Rove-like tactics will do to her? She's MUCH too easy to ridicule! (And we all know how Republican men feel about a woman in the White House.) She'd draw Republicans to the polls like flies. Obama would be MUCH harder to make fun of.

the endless bimbo rumors and we all know they're coming and may not just be rumors. Hilly's already cooked.

That's what counts.

6. McCain has been in Washington how many years? And things are still like this?
It's not good when someone has been in Washington for a long time and then claims that is seeking to change Washington.

is okay with McCain. Yeah, that'll play well.

Just play that clip over and over and over. People will come out in droves to vote for more of the same, :sarcasm:

10. Very pro- vs. anti-war; that will be enough for many. And I venture to
say and think Obama could talk circles around him. For all his years in the Senate, McCain's not particularly inspiring when he opens his yapper..

17. Don't be too sure; more than half of Americans are anti-war at this
point. I just wonder what will happen to the Ron Paul supporters, who like him for his anti-war stance. How could they vote for McCain, who's the complete opposite? Will anti-war or party win out for them? I don't know.

12. What "foreign experience" does McCain have, besides Vietnam? He's not on
the FRC. His foreign policy views aren't very well-developed, actually. In 2000, foreign policy was an afterthought for him, and it isn't much better now. Obama will do fine.

18. Huh? Are you joking? All he has to do is talk about all his many trips to Iraq
to convince the Independents and fence-sitters that he knows what's going on and Obama doesn't. That and everything else he brags about, foreign policy wise.

Hey, I wish we weren't at war. Then Obama might have a chance, but we are at war and that's a fact. The repukes will be waving the flag at every campaign stop and every debate, because donchya know...the surge is working. John McCain says so.

20. Going to Iraq is not that meaningful. McCain really does not shine
on foreign policy--he sticks with the neocon plan. I actually think Obama's advocacy of diplomacy will sell better. And Hillary and Obama have nearly identical stands on the war, so if you assume the Dems' war position is going to hurt us, then it doesn't matter which one is the nominee--and Hillary has never commanded an army or served, so she doesn't have much more experience here either. I think Obama will be fine.

14. I'll repeat the same thing I say on all these "electability" threads.
If all things were equal, then running a black man or a woman or an less experienced candidate would be risky, BUT ALL THINGS ARE NOT EQUAL.

By November what's left of the economy will be in recession, millions of jobs will be gone, outsourcing will continue, the war in Iraq will still be going on, soldier will still be dying, the deficit will be larger, and republican fatigue will be higher.

Slam dunk win. Stop stressing yourself out.

15. Please explain exactly what foreign policy experience does McCain have.
Yeah he's been in the Senate a long time, but that doesn't necessarily equate to foreign policy experience.

So can someone spell out his foreign policy credentials for me?

19. All Obama would have to do is ask one question....
What is better for America's long term prosperity and security?

If you think that the world should fear us, vote for John.

but if you want the world to respect us, we must resist the politics, and the foreign policy of fear.

For generations the world has refereed to the American President as "The Leader of the Free World".

It's time we elected someone who acted like it.

25. Obama is the only candidate who can hammer McCain on the war.

Obama is a man with sound judgment and reasoning who just won't jump on the war bandwagon (invading the wrong country).

In the general election, the country will not accept Hillary as Commander-in-Chief.

Look what all of Clinton's "foreign policy" experience did for her. She voted for a stupid war that will cost this country TRILLIONS in the long run and will have killed and injured hundreds of thousands. Which begs the question? Was she just stupid or just willing to do anything to become President?

I don't think they'd appreciate hearing that. Millions of young black voters vote for the Democratic candidate every 4 years because Democrats DO give them hope, not just Obama.

30. Millions of young Americans AND
millions of black Americans. Two separate but somewhat overlapping groups.

I was one of those non-voters until 2000. Both parties represented to me the status quo of rich prisons and poor schools.
