3. The only grown up in the bunch.
Literally... amongst all of the Democratic and Republicans, there is only one candidate.

John Edwards!

4. Then someone explain why he is doing so poorly
All the hype here at DU says he is THE man, yet he can't seem to reach people with his message. You can't help but like the guy if you listen to his message, but he is a distant third.

I've said it here several times, this election is about the first black or the first woman. Another white european male does not have a chance, and the polls continually reflect that. How do you overcome that? I don't think there is a speech in the world that can overcome that. It is too powerful.

In the GE, there will be those who will not vote for a black, and those who will not vote for a woman, but, the rest of them will, and we will see a woman or a black person as president for the first time.

as American citizens
and about repairing our country
one history making day will not do that

8. Because the media wont give him traction. And because people
like you believe that the election is about color or gender.

12. I agree
With our country going down the drain, the LAST thing we should be doing is trying to put a woman or a black man in office for no more reason that she is a woman or he is a black man.

Look at our first Hispanic attorney general...was it a good thing just because he was hispanic?

I look deeper than skin or genitalia....and if one looks deeper, one sees that Edwards is the only true progressive choice right now. Sad, but true.

14. I think it's because he blinks too much and is kinda wishy-washy sounding
He's had plenty of media exposure (been in all of the zillion debates) and he'd get an awful lot more if showed up better in the polls and/or actually won a primary. The race is about race/gender because the two front runners happen to be a woman and a black man. I'm sure John appreciates your making excuses for him though :D

11. And yet...
It all comes down to what the media will print two months before the election. In that very tender period, if they print favorable articles about Bush and start calling the Democratic Congress obstructionist, it might create a problem.

Only the truth in the press will insure that a Democratic president wins.

9. It's easy to come off as the "grown up" when know one is
challenging and smearing you. It's more like "the opportunist".

And prior to NH it was "the attack dog".

And prior to Iowa it was "the guy who camped iowa for four years".

And prior to that it was "the guy who voted the wrong way on critical issues during his years in the senate".

And prior to that it was the "the guy who got rich on contingency".
