Stop trying to compare Obama to Harold Ford Jr.!!! STOP!!!
STOP! I am sick of people saying that we shouldn't vote for Obama because he is black and will "get eaten alive in the GE". Stop using Harold Ford Jr. as an example of why we can't nominate Obama. It is Racism pure and simple. The ONLY thing that Harold Ford Jr. have in common is that they are Democrats and happen to be black. Stop telling us that we can't vote for Obama because of the color of his skin. It doesn't matter if you think racism will hurt him in the GE. You can't decide because of someones skin color. Vote for the best person for office. Not because someone is or is not black. Not because someone is or is not a woman.

It is still racism if you are trying to justify taking someone skin color into account with the excuse that "other people" might be racist.

3. there is one similarity which I'd be looking for between campaigns
there seemed to be a drop-off in support for Ford from what the voters were telling the pollsters.

7. Are you talking about the Bradley effect?...
it doesn't look like Obama has had a problem with that. The exit polls have been pretty consistant.

10. As far as I know the exit polling was spot on.
The problems with the regular polling might very well be to the short amount of time between IO and NH to get an accurate reason.

The also said 20% decided the morning of the primary.

The last day or two of the rolling polls like Zogby showed Clinton spiking.

Iowa and Nevada seem to show spot on examples of Obama being immune to the Bradley effect.

12. Well I don't think people are implying that
"obama isn't electable...just look at Ford" because they're both black.

If anything, I'd say it's because they're moderates.

I happen to think that Obama is MUCH better than Ford.

And if people are in fact implying that both are not electable because they're black, then that is to say the least unfortunate.

15. Ford is a DLC hack....
Obama is not moderate. He is rated as being more liberal than Hillary and she isn't moderate. You can't honestly think people would be saying that based on being moderate.

6. Yeah, there is no comparison
Ford's a tool; Obama's not...which is about the absolute nicest thing I can say about the O-man until AFTER the primaries. ;-)

14. Actually, I've thought that Hillary is the better comparison to Harold Ford Jr.
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 04:01 PM by Heaven and Earth
Both were establishment candidates running for an office where some ingrained feature was a novelty in that race. Both ran campaigns that made the pundits swoon to see how "perfect" they were, but left activists and the grassroots cold with their centrism. Harold Ford Jr. fell just short even with his "perfect" establishment, centrist campaign, and ever since then, I've been wary of such campaigns.
