When it comes to Hillary's candidacy, here's what you need to forget

Bill Clinton: John McCain and Hillary are 'very close'

"She and John McCain are very close," Clinton said. "They always laugh that if they wound up being the nominees of their party, it would be the most civilized election in American history, and they're afraid they'd put the voters to sleep because they like and respect each other."

Hillary "has always had a good personal relationship with the president"

Eight More Years

<...>

So why are we expecting great things, great change, from his wife, a woman who never met a corporate executive that she didn’t love?

A second Clinton presidency would sandwich the illegitimate Bush 43 presidency as Bill Clinton’s was sandwiched by the Bush administrations. However, unlike Bill Clinton, George W. Bush’s presidency will be even more tarnished rather than burnished by having the misfortune of being sandwiched between two Clintons.

The problem I see, first off, with a Hillary Clinton presidency, is that anything Hillary does, however far from any progressive agenda it will surely be, will still be viewed upon in both the here and now and for a time into the future, as looking infinitely great by conspicuous relief.

Forget that she’s in bed with Bush’s former employers at Harken Energy. Forget about her union-busting six years on Wal-Mart’s board of directors. Forget the fact that she cannot reasonably be expected to overhaul a corrupt campaign finance environment that had gotten her into the White House and into the Senate twice. Forget the fact that she’d even hemmed and hawed about unsealing her husband’s presidential records or that she hasn‘t even begun discussing what she'd do to dismantle the 4th Reichian infrastructure that Bush will be leaving behind.

Anything she does will be marvelous to everyone who hates George W. Bush, which, according to the latest figures, is roughly 70% of the nation.

26. Well, isn't this what Obama would want to do as another "uniter?"
What am I missing here. You are criticizing Hillary for already accomplishing something the Obama is "hoping" for?

3. Paul Wellstone and Jesse Helms were friendly, too
And Tip O'Neil and Reagan were great pals outside the office. What, exactly, is your point?

Most pols in DC are not only well acquainted but friendly outside of the office.

7. "What, exactly, is your point?" Hillary, Bush and McCain are close, and
the rest of the OP. Wasn't that clear?

10. ...and so is the rest of DC
Most people there are friendly, despite party allegiance, outside of work. You make it sound like the Clintons dropped a turd in the punchbowl just because they are close with the McCains.

This country is the envy of the world because, even though we disagree with each other, we can still treat each other civilly outside of politics and not resort to violence to settle our differences.

Your post, while trying to be inflammatory, has done nothing except illustrate your ignorance.

17. You aren't getting it, and I'm not going to school you
The Clintons and McCains are "close". SO. FUCKING. WHAT. Tip and Millie O'Neil were friendly with George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush, as well as Ronald and Nancy Reagan. That didn't make Tip any less a leader of the Democrats in the 1980s.

Seriously, nobody gives a flying fuck whether or not the McCains and Clintons go butthole surfing together in the Hamptons every weekend. The personal attack bullshit does NOTHING for your candidate.

If you stuck to THE ISSUES and PLATFORM, you might get some traction. Otherwise, it's just more noise and adds nothing to the debate.

20. "If you stuck to THE ISSUES and PLATFORM, you might get some traction." Huh?
I'm not running for office. You might want to send that piece of wisdom to Hillary's campaign.

You aren't getting it so think about it and then get back to me when you do.

So what?

Bill Clinton and Bob Dole got along well personally - people really liked the '98 campaign.

21. Politics sometimes makes for strange bedfellows.
To use a probably hoary cliche. But, well...they do. I was going to post about the Kennedy and Hatch friendship. They've served in the Senate together for years. In fact, they've co-sponsored legislation.

This thing with Clinton and McCain is no big deal.

22. Well, did Kennedy say and do this:
Clinton agreed to let George H.W. Bush retreat gracefully into retirement despite Bush’s brazen attempt to destroy Walsh’s criminal investigation by issuing six pardons to Iran-Contra defendants on Christmas Eve 1992.

In his 2004 memoirs, My Life, Clinton wrote that he “disagreed with the pardons and could have made more of them but didn’t.” Clinton cited several reasons for giving his predecessor a pass.

“I wanted the country to be more united, not more divided, even if that split would be to my political advantage,” Clinton wrote. “Finally, President Bush had given decades of service to our country, and I thought we should allow him to retire in peace, leaving the matter between him and his conscience.”

In fact, after Obama was elected to the Senate, he considered Lugar a mentor.

make the Bush presidency so disgusting to Democrats that they will gladly welcome even a Clinton nomination.
