Priceless Quote From Hillary Clinton
On hubby Bill: "I think everyone who knows Bill knows that he’s both a great student of politics and history, but he’s also somebody who brought our country together," - http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/28/us/politics/28dems.html?ex=1202101200&en=79a4160be45da25d&ei=5099&partner=TOPIXNEWS

I remember holding hands in a big circle with our Republican friends, as we all sang "Kumbaya". Don't you?

8. Well it did bring the Senate together in agreement that his actions were deplorable
Go to the Senate record and read all the Democratic comments. All of them made a point of making clear that they thought Bill Clinton's behavior was dishonorable - even as they explained why it didn't reach the level of high crimes and misdemeanors.

2. Maybe she meant that he was tied with FDR as most popular President of the 20th century?
That's kind of "together."

6. Which Poll Are You Looking At?
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 07:54 AM by MannyGoldstein
I cannot find a single poll where Clinton is ahead of Reagan (scary). e.g., http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2007/02/reagan_and_clinton_among_great.html, where he's 4th.

7. I believe Reagan was third.
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 08:00 AM by Perry Logan
"Atrios reports that in 2003, Reagan was beat out in the "Best Presidents Ever" Gallup poll by Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy and, drum roll please, WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON. Reagan's average job approval rating while in office trailed Clinton, George H. W. Bush and a slew of other Presidents. Lastly his all-time high job approval rating, 68%, couldn't best Slick Willy's 71%."
http://theivybush.blogspot.com/2004/06/most-popular-president.html

Clinton's final Gallup polls before leaving office:

12/15-17/00 66 32 2

1/05-07/01 65 31 4

1/10-14/01 66 29 5

Reagan's:

10/21-24/88 51 38 11

11/11-14/88 57 35 8

12/27-29/88 63 29 8

4. The Repukes impeached our president for bs and insulted H. Clinton deeply....
I will never forgive the Repukes for that. Ever. When I think of the future, I do NOT think of singing kumbaya with the GOP. Revenge is more like it.

9. I remember a tax increase on the highest income tax bracket,
the first entitlement reform in a generation and at least an attempt to bring humanity to the military. Then the opposition began the Contract w/you know who ... because he was effective.

Amazing how quickly we forget.

14. The Country Became Far More Polarized During His Tenure
You can argue that he did some good things - and I agree that he did. However, given that our country became more polarized, it's hard to claim that he was a uniter.

16. No, it's not. The country agreed the impeachment was nonsense. You're
confusing the vocal minority w/the overwhelming majority that appreciate the third way.

10. He was quite popular.
In a sense, he did bring the country together, and the efforts of the Republicans in Congress (and their "elves") backfired on them.

15. I remember him having high approval ratings that crossed political parties.Sh
Sure the far right made much hay of him, but ordinary citizens approved.
