Kennedys to back Obama

01:00 AM EST on Monday, January 28, 2008

By Scott MacKay

Journal Staff Writer

PROVIDENCE — Massachusetts Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the Democratic Party’s liberal lion, and his son, Rhode Island Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy, will endorse Barack Obama for president today, giving the Illinois senator a new jolt of momentum in his campaign against New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination.

The Kennedy endorsements come in the wake of Obama’s historic landslide victory Saturday in South Carolina’s primary. More important, they arrive eight days before the round of 22 state primaries and caucuses on Feb. 5 that loom as a de facto national primary that could decide whether Clinton or Obama wins the nomination.

The endorsements will be issued at noon at an Obama rally on the Washington, D.C., campus of American University, Patrick Kennedy said in an interview yesterday. He and Edward Kennedy will be joined by Caroline Kennedy, the only surviving child of the late President John F. Kennedy, who only yesterday announced her support of Obama.

Patrick Kennedy said he decided that after eight years of President Bush — and what Democrats assert is a governing style that has mismanaged the Iraq war and the economy, badly botched the response to Hurricane Katrina and dimmed the reputation of the United States abroad — it is time for dramatic change.

have to be a "family dinner table" decision?

Interesting. (in quotation marks).

10. Why, I wonder?
I remember when Jackie O put her pesonal seal of approval on the Clintons, invited them for some very intimate chats on her yacht, etc. There certainly wasn't any public rift between them. There's also talk that RFK Jr. wants Hillary's Senate seat. Something must be going on behind the scenes?

12. Exactly, think about it, Ted Kennedy may be thinking.....
that if the Clintons take the Presidency again, they become the Premier Democratic family name over the legacy of the Kennedy's, he so doesnt want that.

Thats probably a good reason why.

25. No, Tekisui's right-- candidates not campaigning in MI or FL
so the media doesn't follow them and doesn't care. Remember, in Michigan the media covered the GOP side but ignored the Dems since no delegates at stake, and because of the pledges, the candidates (other than Hillary) didn't campaign there. Same deal with FL-- the GOP side will get a lot of attention, while on the Dem side, since there's been no campaigning and no contesting, and no delegates, it's a non-story. Journalism 101.

up 4: Becerra from CA, Governor Sebelius of KA, Senator Kennedy and Representative Kennedy. I expect we'll see quite a few more this week. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
