Obama: "I am not that invested in the fights of 60s and 70s"
It only follows logically that he's write in his book

Nevertheless, by promising to side with those who worked hard, obeyed the law, cared for their families, loved their country, Reagan offered Americans a sense of common purpose that liberals seemed no longer able to muster."

The "excesses" of the 60s and 70s were the very civil rights those "ineffective" liberals made happen (MLK ). Reagan called the Voting Rights Act - "humiliating for the South"

I am a baby boomer. I am still invested in the fights of the 60s and 70s - they weren't "won" yet. My kids (and other people's kids) follow our footsteps - so I am not gonna say "all youngsters today are shallow"
But Obama is not appealing to those ones. He is appealing for those who want to ignore history and diss their worthy predecessors.
In my book- Clinton - peace and prosperity, reagan - POS,MSM polished POS, but still a turd.
Well, the geezers can still shuffle their slippers to the voting polls - and trust me, they will, MSM be damned!

1. Those "fights" HAD to be fought.
Things wouldn't have changed without them. I'm not even a boomer but I'm sick of this repeating theme from Obama.

And you're absolutely right - these fights aren't won yet. And any success we've had can be easily rolled back by Republicans and complacent folks.

3. Exactly! Every generation MUST continue the struggles of their parents and
be vigilant that their victories are not lost (Habeas Corpus? Voting Rights being hollowed by diebold & other dirty tricks)

Discounting this is almost a guarantee that civil rights will get little respect by this candidate - who only wants to appear black amongst blacks.

liberals of the 60's and 70's were all law breakers and unloving deadbeats.

That is exactly what Michelle MALKIN preaches.

"Nevertheless, by promising to side with those who worked hard, obeyed the law, cared for their families, loved their country, Reagan offered Americans a sense of common purpose that liberals seemed no longer able to muster."

There better be something in the context to absolve this. That is a degrading statement.

... He doesn't want to be invested in either side not giving an inch and in so doing nothing getting done it's ruined things for all Americans. Barack is right on target and people seem to be missing his point wildly or not taking him seriously or objectively. Relax the emotions try to understand he is a Democrat, but a practical one.

5. It's naive of him to think the Civil Rights fight is won based on S.C.
He may learn that sad lesson the hard way.
