What's up with Florida for the Democrats?
I thought it wasn't supposed to matter (like Michigan)

1. And guess who's courting them, just like in Michigan...

3. Right?
It really doesn't seem fair to Obama and Edwards who can't even get their name off the ballot like in Michigan.

How aren't party leaders calling them out on the promise they made? If they don't it will be the the most dishonest win (and I know that there are no delegates up, but the general perception from the public who don't understand it quite so well, will be changed).

6. Really? Obama ran ads in Michigan and kept his name on the ballot in Michigan.
I'll be damned.

Funny how I was comparing Michigan and Florida, and you just can't seem to get it.

Geez.

8. No... the Clintons are just going for the perception vote right now
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 11:26 AM by julialnyc
They want to go into next Tuesday with a little wind in their sails and since they got killed in SC they want to make Florida seem like a bigger deal than it is (the party already decided the delegates wouldn't count). It is dishonest and an example of their ends justifying the means attitude.

9. I agree but
if Hillary needs those delegates at the Convention, expect her to fight for them.

4. Pat Buchanan commented on this...
...this morning.

He is on record sticking up for the Clintons. Joe Scarborough was chiding
Buchanan, as the "lone voice" out there--as Scarborough referred to Buchanan's
positive spin of Bill Clinton's behavior.

Buchanan said that the Clintons are running a typical "Nixonian" campaign
strategy. Buchanan said she's been working behind-the-scenes in Florida
for a while now.

He said the question is, "Is it working?" and Buchanan said that, "Yes, it is working."

Buchanan talked about how Obama won big in Iowa and Hillary was in trouble
going into NH. Bill Clinton "sorta took over and she won an upset in NH
and in NV." Buchanan, who was a speech writer for Nixon--is of the opinion
that process matters not as much as the end result.

I thought this was very interesting. My husband is of the same opinion. He
agrees that the Clinton's tactics are unfair and slimy---but he also thinks
anything is fair game because this is politics.

To some extent, I think this is accurate. If one candidate decides to play
hard ball that is a personal choice. The opposing candidate must figure out
ways to counter this stuff, while still maintaining their own message.

Buchanan has a point...the Clintons are implementing a certain campaign style
that hearkens back to Nixon's dirty tricks and shady tactics.

12. It's all for "show".. I knew that when push came to shove,
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 01:30 PM by SoCalDem
those delegates WOULD be courted.. While I agree in principle..that candidates were right to skip the campaign, NO names should have been removed from the ballots.

With TV coverage what it is, the people in those states KNEW which candidates they would vote for, and they should have had an opportunity to vote for ANY of them..or to sit the whole thing out if they chose...

It's all about leverage, and the rogue-states, now have MORE leverage than ever..
