Today, The Kennedy Torch has been passed to the Leader of the current American Generation!
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 02:45 PM by FrenchieCat
Literally, the torch of the past Kennedy legacy has been passed to Barack Obama, who represents the "urgency of now" for the sake of the future of this country.

This moment will live in our history, as Barack Obama begans in earnest the mark that he will make on our history on our behalf.

Looking towards the future, I cannot be anything but absolutely pleased!

How brightly the flame continues to burn is now in our hands.

I think there is a lot to be said about the way Obama gets the youth involved and excited. Obviously those who cherish the JFK/RFK legacy more than any of us can see the connection.

8. Torch has been passed...
Edited on Mon Jan-28-08 03:05 PM by lapfog_1
"We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans—born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage—and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this Nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.
This much we pledge—and more."

JFK inaugural speech, Jan 20, 1961.

(thought most Democrats would actually know this one... Ask not what you can do for your country, etc, but edited to add attribution)

period.

What we choose to do with it, is in our hands.

Certainly some will choose to sit on it and put it out.

Others will decide that it is a legacy worth moving forward.

We shall see who has it their way...the flame smotherers or the torch carriers.

18. Kennedy is a great orator...
...and he admires a great orator. Kennedy is also all about entrenched Washington interests and is the spokesman of all that is backward looking and retro in American politics today. Kennedy's endorsement makes one thing absolutely clear - the Senate power brokers are on an anti-Hillary mission.

This endorsement, and all it entails, gives Barak Obama a lot more themes and issues to absorb into his message.

20. You are welcome.......
While some of us watch history being made, and understand the gravity of it all without waiting for the history books to be written,

there are others who will not get what is happening until it has happened and the books have been written....

These are the same type of folks who didn't get MLK until his death, didn't like James Brown music till 25 years later, and had no clue about the motown sound until it was considered good vintage music.

These are the folks that come to conclusion not based on their own instincts but wait for it to be explained to them.

Be proud that you get it as it happens.......as this is a much more satisfying and rewarding experience.

36. And putting his picture next to JFK's is an insult
Personally, I'm getting real tired of the "Worship Obama" meme, and it's only January. When people stop looking for sweet talking "saviors" and actually get up and do something for themselves maybe then this country can move forward.

35.  The torch is in DC called the eternal flame
There is no one to pass JFK's torch except JFK himself . Obama is no relation to the Kennedy's .

These people talk about forgetting the past and looking forward to the future . Which is it , what double speak . Some sort of new beginning , how may new beginnings will it take before we have the end .

What do you people who were not around during the 60's know about any of this and how can you attach yourself to a generation you bash so easily . You are hypocrites and hangers on , find your own purpose and energize yourselves , invent and find your own hope then you have something you created .

I can't wait until you are in your 60's and brushed off and bashed and blamed for everything and have no history other than barrowed history to stand on .
