1. With John Edwards.
Neither Clinton nor Obama will get enough votes to defeat him. If Clinton or Obama is our candidate just hope that McCain isn't the Republican pick.

2. Somehow Biden has to be part of the strategy - he's the one with the most
FP experience like McCain, and with appeal to crossover voters who may not agree with McCain's views on Iraq.

I don't quite know how - but I know he'd be a big help, regardless of who gets the nom.

24. Doesn't necessarily have to be the VP - but his "presence" somewhere would
be of great value -- as I said, I don't really know how. I just know we need him!

3. Can we use the same strategy bu$h did in 2000?
No, I suppose not, we are Democrats and believe in clean, fair elections and never stoop to the depths of the republicon party or the bu$h regime.

We will have to make sure his age is an issue and then make sure Iraq gets air time and expose the fact that he wants more war and would attack Iran and maybe other sovereign nations.

The man is dangerous.

7. I think it's really not going to be the apocalypse some people are predicting.
Age. His unfaltering war support. His admitted lack of knowledge on the economy. His support of the wildly unpopular immigration bill turns off many die-hard republicans. His temper. I honestly don't think he could really do as well as people think he will.

Does that mean we can rest on our laurels? No.

But a McCain nomination will almost ensure that Bush-bots and far righties stay home.

12. with someone who was always AGAINST THE IRAQ WAR and can compete for the middle
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 08:22 PM by Tulkas
We need to learn from our mistake in '04. Kerry is a great guy but he got beat up on the war because he voted for it.

Everything could be spun. If you said it was Bush lies that influenced your vote then you are not taking responsibility for your own vote.

If you say it was mishandled after the vote then you did not understand what you were voting for.

I don't agree with these arguments but they work to counter all our arguments against the "hawks".

We MUST have a candidate who can fight on this issue with credibility.

Also if it is McCain he has strong support outside the Repug party. Indies will vote for him over Hillary without a second thought.

Again, we MUST have a candidate who can draw support from independents and not just the Democratic party base.

14. Unfortuntely, I think the fix is in for McCain. They've been planning this since 2000
The GOP has been salivating for a McCain - Clinton battle. They have the machines ready and rigged for him, they have the amnuntion ready and loaded to attack Hillary, they've already started the disenfranchisement of thousands of new citizens (ran out of time to get them processed- what a surprise) and, unless we can create a landslide - and I mean LANDSLIDE with triple the turnout then we saw in 2006 - which I doubt we can pull off with Clinton and may be possible with Obama or Edwards but even those are a longshot-- get ready for President McCain and -- maybe VP Crist or- who knows- maybe even Jeb Bush (anything is possible with these criminals).

There is no way they will give up the thrown without a huge fight and no way they haven't been planning this battle for years.

Anyone want to join me in -- Mexico? Costa Rica? I'm open to suggestions....

17. His perceived strength is national security and
foreign affairs.

If we have learned one thing from Rove, it is attack their strengths. I don't mean swiftboating and lies, because that is not necessary and that's not what we do.

However, most people don't realize how completely off-the-wall McCain is on these national security issues: He wants to stay in Iraq another 100 years. And it sounds like he wants to start another half-dozen other wars while were at it.

He's basically running on a more extreme version of Bush's Iraq policy and national security policy, which is fine with the 30 percent club, but which won't fly with the general population if they know the details. If McCain doesn't have national security to run on, I'm not sure what else he has...

Despite all the money that the super-rich have given Hillary, the corporate media loves McCain more than any other politician. I think he'd definitely win vs. Hillary, probably by 5-10 points.

23. i think we'll be running against Romney, to be truthful
I think the disappearance of Guiliani and the fumes that are keeping Huckster alive will allow support to transfer to Romney, not McCain, as the "true conservative" (puppet) in the race.

And if it comes down to McCain, I just want to see the juxtaposition of Obama or Edwards on the stage next to him in a debate. He will look small, bitter, and nasty. Worse than Kennedy-Nixon.

32. That is complete BS.
It has states going red in which the Democrats drew far more voters to their primaries than did the Republicans.

Sorry, but their nice and neat little "models" just don't cut it this election.

30. turn his positive into a negative
The thinks he was been saying about the war have been insane and most people don't agree with him, so we need to expose that.
Another way to do it is have either Obama or Clinton say that they agree with McCain on torture, finance reform, immigration, and global warming which would make the republican base very angry.

31. By literally jamming down everybody's throat these mccain statements:
"The jobs aren't coming back" and "we'll be in Iraq for 100 years."

More war and destitution. Yay! Yeah, let's all vote for THAT, shall we?

But we have to be relentless. RELENTLESS. Drill this into everyone's brains as though with a Dremel tool. No one must be able to escape it.

36. I am listening to McCain's victory speech. I AM SCARED.
VERY conciliatory to Mittens, relating how he has been on the losing end before.

Says Giuliani is an inspiration to him and a leader.

Thanks Huckabee for injecting humor, passion and conviction into the race.

He sounds reasonable and civil; very unlike the real McCain we know.

37. To beat McCain, I think Democrats need to HAMMER these two points home
1) McCain is for continuing the Iraq war for f-ing ever....Remember his quote (paraphrasing) "we could stay in Iraq for 100 years"....Democrats need to play his exact quote over & over & over again...

2) Also, there will likely be 2-3 SCOTUS appointments in the next presidential term.....Democrats need to drive the point home that if a Democrat is POTUS (whether it's Clinton or Obama) you will get Ginsburg or Stevens type appointments....If John fucking McCain gets to make those appointments, you'll get Supreme Court justices in the mold of Scalia & Thomas....And that's a fact....

38. McCain is running to be a war president only, he don't know anything else
and he don't care about anything else, if the country end up picking him we'll probably end up in a world war. He will continue what Bush started. In other words the country is doomed.
