1. It's not untrue. Notice where our candidates are - and how they relate to each other

3. Take that test again
Answering how the Candidates would answer. While they are still above and to the right of where I would put myself, I simply see no way using the question set in the test to get Edwards, Obama, or even Clinton in the upper right quadrant.

6. Clinton and Obama are surprisingly authoritarian...
A recent example would be both of them jumping on the Lieberman bandwagon to try to regulate the content of video games, in direct contradiction with the first Amendment, by the way.

7. I don't doubt that
But what I am saying is they do not match up to the question set presented to people going to the site. I take the test and basically get -10, -10. If I try to compare that result to where it shows the candidates, it looks like we're way off. But if I take the test AS the candidate, giving the answers they would give (from my opinion of course), I get something way different than where they chart them. Perhaps there is a question set that would indeed map them there, but that same set probably would not map me as -10, -10.

8. I took the test again...
http://www.politicalcompass.org/facebook/pcgraphpng.php?ec=-10.00&soc=-8.82

Economic Left/Right: -10.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -8.82

That is about where I fall, which is about typical, I think some of the more personal question tripped me up. The fact is I think they are going by what the candidate DO and say. Generally speaking, all the Democratic candidates ARE far right to me, Kucinich, to me, is a moderate. My politics compare more favorably with center left and leftist parties in Canada and Europe more than the Democrats here in the United States. The closest American political parties I actually agree with would be the Socialist Party, USA, or the DSA, a leftist organization.

9. Voting as Obama
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 10:26 AM by mohc
for example, I got -3.62, -3.69. Still a ways from me, but not as shocking as their placement would lead to believe.

Answers I have by page (1=Strongly Disagree, 2=Disagree, 3=Agree, 4=Stongly Agree)

1. 4,3,2,1,1,3,3
2. 2,1,3,3,3,1,3,3,1,2,1,3,3,3
3. 1,3,2,2,2,1,3,3,2,2,1,2,4,3,2,2,2,2
4. 3,1,2,3,2,2,2,2,2,1,3,3
5. 2,2,3,2,2
6. 2,3,3,3,3,3

10. It seems they use the candidates' voting history to take it into account...
Its probably more accurate the more history there is, I don't know the exact methodology, unfortunately. However, you have to realize that the scale is based on INTERNATIONAL standards of the spectrum between left and right, authoritarian versus libertarian. The United States is a country where our "left-right" and "authoritarian-libertarian" spectrums are really narrow. Kucinich would be mainstream in any other western industrialized nation, yet here he is considered a left wing extremist. Hillary is even labeled things such as "communist" as if Americans even know what that means! She's center-right, at best, so is Obama and Edwards.
