As a former Clarkie, I feel for all Edwards supporters today
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 09:51 AM by Wolsh
I remember when Clark dropped out in 04. I thought that all the good had just been sucked out of the election. He was the only politician who's concession made me cry. With that said, I think I know a little of what you may be going through today. The campaign will never be as fun and inspiring as it once was for you, but hopefully John was able to negotiate a way to keep his political career alive. I'm sure he did and we'll be seeing quite a bit of the senator for the foreseeable future.

Today, as a Democrat only, I salute all of you and your candidate.

3. Former Clarkie AND former Edwards supporter.
Same old thing all over again. We lose the best ones because they don't have the damn money. Went to a big, enthusiastic rally for Edwards just last night; it sure sounded like he was in it for the long haul. I wonder what happened between last night and this morning? Gotta be money...

Shit.

11. If this election has taught us anything, its that there really is a need for campaign finance reform
A 2 year race that saw the three best candiates (Richardson, Biden and Edwards) have to drop out due to money.

7. Clark supporter here too...
I feel your pain. I know Edwards has a good heart. Feels for those he speaks for. I don't think his voice will be smothered, and he is a fighter. He will be Heard in the future, just as Wes Clark is now.
We Clarkies all support your saddness today, however, John Edwards will be heard. There is a plan for him, that we don't know, BUT HE DOES!!! Hang in there !!!

9. Former Clarkie here... Sorry Edwards supporters!
I am really sorry your candidate is dropping out. It sucks. I remember crying on & off all day when Clark droppped out.

I support Hillary but truly believe Edwards would have made a fine President. I hope he continues to make his voice heard.

15. I never got over it either.
Everytime I try to change my avatar, I just can't seem to go through with it.

I know how bad it can hurt, when someone who has the best plan, best thoughts, best ideas, and best interests of all Americans at heart has to concede to a (perceived) lesser person.

My heart goes out to all the Edwards supporters.

12. I second that!
Edwards supporters hold him in the same esteem I held Clark, so I know how hard this must be for them.

My condolences and heartfelt sympathy go to all of you who lost your candidate today.

16. I do as well
I wrote a longer post about my feelings about Edwards leaving the race that touches on our prior days at DU together...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4287308&mesg_id=4287619

...so I won't repeat it here. Edwards supporters and Clark Supporters have both been through this twice now. Caring so deeply about a candidate who did not win the nomination even though the true believers for each man can not imagine a better candidate for President emerging than the one we failed to get; It truly is heart breaking. It knocks the breath out of you, the part of you that cares most about issues larger than yourself, and that is always the best part of each of us.

John Edwards did much to inspire many Americans, including me, but none were inspired more than those who stuck with him and Elizabeth through thick and thin. I know how that personal edge of loss cuts deeply. I hope most DU members can appreciate that, and leave Edwards supporters to decide for themselves if and how to engage in the primary process moving forward. They will find the answers on their own, or by asking for inmput, not by being hounded.

I have every confidence that John and Elizabeth will continue to make their voices heard in the fight for justice in America. They are truly committed to their cause and it won't stop because a presidential campaign did.

I feel for the ones who were supporters in 2003 and have gone through this repeatedly. Bless their hearts, I don't know how they keep recommitting.
