For those Edwards fans not interested in carrying on, here are some options
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 01:32 PM by zulchzulu
I've noticed that some Edwards supporters are disgusted with the news today and are now not interested in national politics.

Guess what... we still need your passion.

There is plenty to work on:
  • E-Voting reform
  • Climate change and Environmental issues
  • Katrina support in Gulf Coast
  • Protesting the Iraq War
  • Poverty issues
  • Middle East peace issues
  • Woman's choice issues
  • GLBT issues
  • Universal healthcare reform
  • UN issues
  • Education issues

Take time off. Join a grassroots group in your town and help turn the page on these issues. Maybe run for office...

1. I will still work on progressive issues, but I won't be doing any campaigning for a presidential
candidate.

2. An excellent idea!
I was so disappointed when I heard. Oh, well.

Although it's unlikely Hillary or Obama will focus on the issues you listed, at least we can get the ball rolling on solving the problems ourselves. Turning the page is a great start!

5. On that I disagree...but carry on!
I think Obama addresses all the issues I mentioned, but it would be great to see more people out there tabling at events for a cause they believe in.

There is a LOT of work to do to heal from the Bush years.

21. It's gonna take a lifetime to undo the damage he did
but in the meanwhile we can at least get the ball rolling on the grassroots issues.

4. How about the DU way of pouting and having a snit fit when things don't go your way?
That seems to be pretty popular. You know, "if my candidate does not win I'm not going to vote for anybody, particularly 'you know who'."

6. How about a day of understanding for people who worked hard and are only human?
I'm going to be putting my energy behind the Democratic ticket, but I think we can let people feel down for a day
or two without chiding them, don't you?

9. Good idea, but add health care reform and advocacy to the list
I already run one of those grassroots groups and I know firsthand that they face some grim times ahead.

Money will get tighter and demand for services and assistance will continue to grow. Our caseload has tripled in the last several months for sick people needing help with bills, losing insurance, etc., while donations are down by 1/3.

Its going to get worse.

I would highly recommend running for office, however. There's a long struggle ahead of us to take back control of the Democratic party. If Clinton or Obama win, we're looking at a 5 to 6 year wait.
Actually, if Clinton or Obama loses the GE, we can reform the party sooner. I'm not advocating for it, just sayin.

vote for the craziest repug you can find! nothing feels better than sailing the ship of state into the rocks... it's sinking anyway - why not help it? when we're at war w/iran and having food shortages - then the people (might) actually vote a true progressive into office again ala FDR.

12. You didn't forget to...
...weld the door shut, duct-tape the windows then and make certain you had enough canned beans and potable water to ride out the blast wave and fallout also, did you?

Lord, the drama. It's fucking Grand Guignol, Douglas Sirk and “Dark Shadows” all rolled into one around here lately. Jeez...

17. It's okay. You've gotten the attention you so craved...
...and I hope it makes you feel better. This lashing out in anger and what not.

Edwards was an awesome candidate and would want his issues fought for even if he couldn't throw all the punches himself in the primaries.

So do what you will, but understand that you are making an ass of yourself with the “I am now a hermit” shpiel.

Hope the sardines don't go bad.

23. And I Un-subscribed To Everything Myself! For What Little Time I Have
to get out of the house, I will try to work for those less fortunate. But, my mother-in-law needs 24 hour care. But, politics won't be front and center for me. Some say give it a couple of day, not gonna work for me this time. I've given it years now... things are about the same, but NOW the Democrats are getting in bed with the BIG MONEY, SHIT WALKS, and seem to have forgotten that "BIG TENT" idea!

20. i kinda agree -
unfortunately both delusional and/or greedy re-pugs and OSA(other stupid americans)...and i count some dems among these... have forced the issue. i'm pretty much moving in the libertarian direction these days - because some people are just too damn stupid to be helped and they won't even help themselves no matter how eloquently you lay out the issues. corporatism IS the issue. until that is dealt with - and americans can talk intelligently about the plutocracy - and i'm not holding my breath here - the game is OVER. I'm working hard for my family/friends now - screw this shit.
