When Bill Clinton was elected in 1992, the deficit was at a record $280 billion plus and no one knew how it was going to affect the economy in the future. But, luckily for him, there was a "technological revolution" waiting to spur on the economy. Everyone was buying a computer, much like a car in every garage, and it created a boom of historic proportions. Before his second term was over, he would submit three balanced budgets to the Congress.

But, unless there is the "Green Revolution", the next President will inherit a mess unlike any ever shoveled up behind any Republican. Wars and rumors of wars. $4 trillion more in debt. A collapsing dollar and a recession on the horizon. Political division unlike any seen in a very long time. Lost respect around the world. A worn-out military. Etc.

Most likely, the next President will inherit a very bad recession? The present "stimulus package" is a temporary fix intended to get the Republicans thru the summer and into the November elections without the world collapsing around their hypocritical necks. The old saying, be careful what you wish for, you might just get it, is applicable for these times. But, put more water in the soup, 'cause better times are comin'.

1. I do not envy the next president, be it a man

or a woman. This country is in such a mess it will take a genius to get us back on track. If the new president doesn't immediately "fix" things, we all will be in the mood to tear him or her down. We must realize it will not be easy. I so want to give up, but I never have been a quitter so I'll just hang in there.

I think that's likely no matter who is elected.

6. People lost money when the dot.com bubble burst...

but the unemployment rate remained steady or went down. The so-called "recession" that Bush inherited was very light. In fact, the unemployment rate when Bush took office was only 4% - as compared to the present 5%. And they were counting almost all the unemployed back then, as opposed to now. It is estimated that the attack on 9/11 lost the economy about $250 billion dollars. So the "recession" that Bush inherited is mostly a Republican lie.

4. If elected, OBAMA could inherit much worse situation than did Bill Clinton OR Carter

did. So what's the diff? Carter the uniter and healer didn't have a chance. Unless Obama starts showing me some cajones i am afraid he will follow into Carters legacy and be smeared soundly like Carter was. If he gets a back bone i will vote for him.

5. The country has not been this damaged

this worn out, this foul in mood since the election of Jimmy Carter. Carter was handed a massive mess. History now shows he handled it pretty well, and (let's face it) had we continued and developed his energy independence and environmental policies, we would be in much, much better shape today.

The new president will face enormous pressure for quick fixes. It will take a master politician and leader to survive a single term.

7. Carter's problem was the hostage situation. It was felt he wasn't

doing enough to get them released. Plus the economy, but I was lucky we both had good union jobs. Those jobs no longer exist. A little money in the bank drawing I think around 15%. The down side was people buying homes were paying as much as 18%.

their work cut out for them, thanks to Bush and his recklessness. Cleaning up after him will be no easy task.
