Poughkeepsie - Local officials from Dutchess County came out Thursday to endorse Barack Obama in his bid for the White House.
Members of county, town, and city government, as well as a representative from the Board of Education, gathered in front of the county office building at 22 Market St. in Poughkeepsie to voice their support for Obama's candidacy.
Roger Higgins, chairman of the Dutchess County Legislature said, "Obama is the kind of candidate we have all been waiting for. I am proud to announce my support for Senator Obama."
Also present from the County Legislature were Barbara Jeter-Jackson, Bill McCabe, Pete Wassell, Alison MacAvery, and Margaret Fettes, all endorsing Obama. Dan French, Beekman Town Councilman and Vice-President of the Dutchess County Young Democrats also endorsed Obama. From the City of Poughkeepsie, council members Penny Lewis and Gwen Johnson announced their backing of Obama. Randall "Randy" Johnson from the City of Poughkeepsie Board of Education appeared at the press conference to show his support alongside the other officials. Town Supervisor Patricia Myers of the Town of Poughkeepsie also publicly endorsed the Illinois Senator at the event.
