U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar, the dean of the Minnesota congressional delegation, today endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for president.

The 17-term Democrat from Chisholm, Minn., said Obama "has shown an ability to project a soaring image of a future for America that lifts the spirits of young people... and to touch the hearts of seniors as well."

Oberstar had supported former Sen. John Edwards, who dropped out of the presidential race on Wednesday. The congressman said in a conference call with reporters that Obama's views are closer to Edwards' than Sen. Hillary Clinton's are, and he predicted a "large majority" of Edwards' supporters will now back the Illinois senator.

"I believe the largest challenge of the next president is not global warming, not restarting the domestic economy, but changing America's image in the world," he said. "For that we need a transformational president. I think Sen. Obama will be that transformational president around whom the rest of the world can rally."

hate women? Call NOW and mobilize the membership and get those placards drawn up for a protest in front of his office-why is it that most of the semnators and congressmen are lining up AGAINST HRC?

4. I really hope this is sarcastic.
My sarcasm-meter is busted these days, so sorry if I misunderstand this hating-women thing.

3. He represents a very blue-collar, culturally moderate
district. Nice pick up.
