How many MoveOn members here are "opting out" over MO endorsement?
Edited on Fri Feb-01-08 02:51 PM by Stoic
They didn't allow a "No Endorsement" choice in their poll thereby freezing out all us members who neither wanted to endorse Hillary or Obama. In truth, I'm not going to rush to donate the next time they come knocking and will probably (temporarily) filter all MoveOn emails to the trash at least until after the Convention. I will support the eventual Democratic candidate in the general election but until then I (as Molly Ivins would say) "have no dog in this hunt".

1. why don't you just be honest
and change that Edwards banner at the bottom to who you now REALLY support-it would explain a lot

8. Isn't it hard to say you don't have a "dog in this hunt" when you have
Elizabeth Edwards picture as your avatar?

5. The arc of my support since 2003
I was for Gore in 2003 until be declined to run. Then I supported Dean becoming a Meet-up leader and going to Iowa to volunteer for the caucuses. Then I went to Ohio to door knock for Kerry on election day. Then I supported Gore again -- same result. Then I looked at the field and picked Edwards.

If you're implying that I'm a secret Republican, you can take that opinion and stuff it up any available orifice you find available.

20. no I'm not suggesting
you're some closet republican-I feel the same way about the candidates I've supported I was Gore guy in 2000-Edwards then Kerry guy in 2004...Gore for me for this election then when he opted out I went for Edwards again and when it was looking like he wasn't expecting to win any primaries I switched over to Obama for my vote on Tuesday down here. Oh yea about sticking things into orifices-sorry exit only

3. They did a poll a while ago asking if they should endorse.
Also, you can just ignore their requests for Obama for now. They still work on important issues.

7. Since the Dem Establishment hates MoveOn
I decided to punish them just a little until after the Convention. I suspect I'm going to get a lot of "support Obama" emails which I will ignore and close the wallet until then also.

10. I took myself off the mailing list too.
I did not think they should have endorsed anyone. If they endorse Obama and Clinton wins, then they would be an organization biased against her. And the same goes if they would have endorsed Clinton and Obama won the Presidency. It takes away from their neutrality that we have come to depend on. They are supposed to be for all Dems to further the party.

15. So what are they going to do at General Election time?
When it's Hillary Clinton and not Barack Obama on the ballot? Eat crow? Somehow I doubt it.

They shouldn't have endorsed anyone.

I like them and have supported them, but I wouldn't want them to endorse me.

23. I agree.
Especially after that "General Betray Us" brouhaha, why give ammunition to the right wing in the GE. I would be very leery of any benefits of their endorsement.

18. I unsubscribed back when Move On had that important poll...
and refused the many of us who wanted them to include the possibility of impeachment and they refused to respond.

Strange outfit. Lots of activist members and impeachment was not on their table either.

19. just got there email and opted out.
My feedback to why I left them:

"I do not support Obama for President. I am an Edwards Supporter and will vote for Edwards regardless of the corporatist's efforts to silence him. Next time you take a poll, put a choice for "none" or "other". Your "poll" silenced my voice just like the corporatists."

21. I opted out
Saw Hillary/Obama and wrote them back and told them to pick whoever they wanted. Told them that if this was that important to them, they should have polled back when progressives were still in the race. They could always have changed, but as there are no progressive options, I have no opinion who they pick.

:hi:

25. I'm opting out because I don't believe it's their mission to
endorse ANY candidate at this stage. They should wait until it's over and then support the Democratic choice. No more money to them either. They have forgotten their original purpose.

Like it is already OVER!

couldn't believe it:

"We congratulate Sens. Clinton, Dodd and Biden, former Senator Edwards, Governor Richardson, Congressman Kucinich and former Senator Gravel on running tremendous campaigns. We thank them for their contributions to the important debate that has gripped our nation and for their ongoing engagement with our members. We're looking forward to working together to bring progressive values to the nation's capitol and to end this disastrous war in Iraq. MoveOn members are committed to putting a Democrat in the White House in 2008 and ushering in a new era of progressive values no matter who wins the nomination."

37. I didn't vote.
I tried to write in John Edwards, but their ballot REQUIRED a choice between Obama and Hillary, and that's exactly what I thought .. no dog.

I thought it was poor form too. Not really a choice, is it? Shame on Move On.
