104 year old woman throws her support behind Obama.
Edited on Sat Feb-02-08 03:10 AM by Drunken Irishman
A great story in today's Pasadena Star-News.

http://www.pasadenastarnews.com/news/ci_8144722

Now, at 104, Wilkins is getting ready to cast her ballot for a woman or a black man for president of the United States in the November elections.

"I didn't think I'd live that long - I think it's wonderful," she said of candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. "But I think I'll vote for Obama. Yes, why not?"

5. Just that, a 104 year old woman supports Obama.
In my mind, her voice is no less important than that of any political endorsement we've seen posted on this board. After all, she is a voting Democrat who has certainly lived through a lot to cast her vote. Agree with it, don't, but I thought it was a nice story in an otherwise bitter contest.

4. If you don't care for it perhaps it's not the forum for you?
I see you just joined, if we are too 'closed-minded' perhaps it's not a good fit :(

I support Clinton and I am one of the most open minded people on this planet.

who is going to vote for someone she never expected to see. Good for her. Good for her being 104. BRAVO!

8. Sometimes it comes down to that.
Edited on Sat Feb-02-08 03:14 AM by Drunken Irishman
Remember, many Democrats aren't anti-Hillary or anti-Obama. To them, both are very acceptable candidates and it could come down to a flip of a coin. I think that says more about our candidates than it does about anything else. For this woman, she is probably among the majority who will happily vote for Clinton OR Obama and if they could, vote for both Tuesday. So, it may just come down to "why not?". :)

I bet she appreciates her vote more than people think.
It is amazing to hear the perspective of people who have live through those times.
I once talked with a woman who said that she got yelled at like crazy for not voting because her mother had that kind of appreciation.

11. The story of her leaving college made me so sad, but I'm glad
she's getting to see this happen in her lifetime. I'm not tooooo sure about her judgement if she watches Dr Phil every day :P but I have a hunch I'd like her a lot.

"She still likes her martini," Jones said, laughing. "What's interesting to me is for breakfast she likes half a grapefruit, all the sections cut out, sprinkled with sugar - and then rum."

Great story! Thanks so much for posting the link.

14. This woman was 10 years old when women got the vote,
and she was 44 years old before she was able to exercise her own enfranchisement.

I give K&R just to give this woman recognition.........I can't imagine what she has seen! :)
