What Senate Seats Are We Likely To Pick Up This Year?

Here are my guesses:

Strongly leaning Dem:

Virginia. Mark Warner is favored to pick up John Warner's seat. He's led Jim Gilmore in every poll by double digits.

New Mexico: Tom Udall over Heather Wilson or Steve Pearce. He to leads strongly in every poll.

Leaning Dem:

New Hampshire. In most polls Jeanne Shaheen has led over John Sununu. New Hampshire's primary also indicates that indies there are leaning dem, and more dems than repugs turned out.

Colorado. Mark Udall is neck in neck with Schaeffer, a very right wing puke. Colorado is now a purple state with a dem governor, and it's trending bluer.

Minnesota: Francken over Coleman. Colema

Norm Coleman is not popular in Minnestota. I'm tempted to put this in the strongly leaning dem, but it's a bit early yet.

Possible:

Oregon
Maine
Alaska

I feel like I'm missing a couple; this is off the top of my head. In the final analysis, I think the dems will pick up 5+ seats in the Senate, and it wouldn't shock me if the dems had 60 seats in their column after the election.

Maybe in Mark Foley's district because they are heavily conservative.

3. Yes. We are set to make gains on the same level as 2006 or

greater. 28 repuke reps have chosen to retire; quite a few in close districts in places like NY and VA (Reynolds and Davis). The obvious reason for such a large number of retirements, is that these guys see the writing on the wall. We should pick up at least 8 House seats- and that's a modest prediction. The Senate looks even better for dems, as the repukes have 22 seats in contention and the dems have only 11. The only dem senate seat we might lose is LA.

If it were 2006 and those seats were up for election, I might agree.

The top of the ticket WILL be dragging us down in a number of states.
At best, Clinton or Obama wins in a squeaker, or if it gets stolen again, the 'Piggies
don't bother stuffing the ballot boxes for the races down-ticket.

14. Tom Allen's the Finest Kind! My Tom Allen story:

I was looking to purchase a city owned building when he was Mayor. Made an appointment to see inside it, and waited on the sidewalk for the real-estate person to show up. Tom Allen came hustling down on foot about 10 minutes late, shook my hand, let me in, asked if I could bring the keys back to City Hall, told me the asking price was 'way high', shook my hand, and hurried back out the door. It's not always easy to form a opinion of someone you met once for about two minutes, but I was impressed then, and remained impressed today.

13. We have a chance in Texas

We have a very good candidate, Rick Noriega, running against a dingbat John Cornyn.

He is well funded so far by the people of Texas because the national party always turns its back on Texas this time of year. But we will fund, and hopefully win, this race so that Howard Dean can take credit for his 50 state strategy. (Of course he isn't going to help, but I'm sure he will take credit.)
