CNN: Edwards unlikely to endorse before Super Tuesday - Me: But What Happens When He Does ???
Does he get to "give" his delegates to Hillary or Barack?

Do they become free agents, able to vote their own consciences?

How does this work?

Oh... CNN article: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/02/01/edwards-not-likely-to-endorse-pre-super-tuesday/

<snip>

(CNN) — Sources close to John Edwards tell CNN not to expect him to endorse either of his former presidential rivals before Super Tuesday. "That's just not something he's going to do," said one source.

The former North Carolina senator’s endorsement would be a coveted prize. His exit from the race leaves unions, editorial boards, elected officials and voters who had backed his run suddenly up for grabs. Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are aggressively courting all of those groups ahead of next week’s crucial Super Tuesday contests in 22 states.

3. Nothing, unless he release his delegates "officially" at the same time I would assume.
Or it would be "understood " that he would give that candidate those delgates and any he might acquire at the convention. It is really not a big deal.Except for those that are waiting for him to endorse to tell them how to vote.John however said to "keep our powder dry, go slow and not rush anywhere". So I don't think he is endorsing anyone.

4. He owes the party his political life against the Jesse Helms machine.
Edwards' supporters should be worshiping the Democratic party, instead of "screw 'em".

6. Are you nuts? John defeated the Helms machine alone with his own money and zero help
Edited on Sat Feb-02-08 03:06 PM by saracat
from the Party who thought a southern state who had a 3 term Helms machine incumbant wasn't worth fighting for. John owe the Party nothing. They owe him.

7. He owes the DLC for their support.
John Edwards wouldn't say "screw 'em" to the party and neither should you. DLC stuck their necks out for him...remember that next time he runs for President.

8. He doesn't have to do anything, it's just a matter of tradition.
I myself am not happy with the way he has handled this.

14. Well, he's holding delegates and if he "releases" them,
they can go anywhere. If he endorses someone, his delegates are under no obligation to follow his rec. They can go anywhere whether he releases them or not or whether he endorses someone or not.

So, it really is sort of like a Junior High dance insofar as it's mostly a ritual.

:silly:
