So, Bi-Baby and myself are going to the Obama rally in Boston on Monday
Both of us have not been Obama fans since the McClurkin incident, plus the recent Rev. Caldwell issue , and we're both still having serious issues about that. That being said, 3 of our favorite home state politicians will be there; Kerry, Kennedy, and Patrick. That alone is enough to be there.

I've been lurching towards Obama in the last few weeks as it became clear it was him and Clinton who would be the last two standing. I've decided as such that I will be voting for him on Tuesday. About a month ago I would never have voted for him, but then I still had my first choices (Kucinich and Dodd) and even my second choices (Edwards and Biden). As a rule of thumb, I won't vote for someone who has dropped out. If anything, if the only option left is someone I won't vote for, I leave it blank.

Bi-Baby is more excited than I am to attend this. I'm excited to attend, but I'm not excited to have to arrive 4 hours or so before it begins (especially since I arise at 5 a.m. for work, and we'll probably be home pretty late). She's excited for the same reason I mentioned above: Kerry, Kennedy and Patrick. She wants to attend for that, but also to give Obama one last chance to give her a reason to vote for him.

The main reason I've been lurching towards him aside from the withdrawals of my main choices, and aside from my disdain for Hillary, is that I truly believe he will be an incredible nominee that will win by a landslide, and will create a super majority. I even said as much as I was railing against him, and even attended his Boston rally with the following sign:

Anyhow, I'm not quite the Obama supporter as some here are, but I am going to vote for him.

That being said, I'm still kinda annoyed that I'm going to be going to bed later than I like. :P

I am so thankful that Edwards was still in when I voted in New Hampshire, because I absolutely could not pull the lever for Obama. We *still* are not curses, and I won't forget how he sold us out.

In any case, happy voting :)

Bi-Baby has already met Deval Patrick, shook his hand, and still blushes when she talks about it - as she just did a few minutes ago. :)

I'm excited to see Kerry most as I've never seen him live. If I get to shake any hands I will be thrilled. We're bringing our camera, so we should have some pics hopefully.

As for the sleep, I'm sure I'll get over it. That's my dad in me. He won't do anything pretty much if it will interrupt his sleep. Then again, he gets up at the same time as me, but he also usually ends up to having to work up to 72 hours straight on his job. :wow:
I don't know how he still does it at age 59.

think you're giving a very fair and honest assessment of your feeling(s) concerning this Obama situation.

Both you and sniffa are fierce supporters of gay issues, and you guys aren't really disappointing me because I consider you my friends.

It would be difficult for me to consider Obama, but I understand your feelings. It's politics and you know how politics can be. And you have to go with your heart.

Friends disagree.

I do know we can all agree that it's a shame Dennis K isn't still around.

This isn't a position I came to on a whim. As I explained in my OP, it was a tortured road I took, but this is where I am. I assumed this year would be like 2004, and DK would be in it forever. :(

When I went to the polls in 2004, there were only 2 Dems that hadn't dropped out: Kerry and Kucinich. I went to the polls most likely voting for Dean, but when I got to the polls, there were a shitload of people holding signs outside. 15+ people were holding Kerry signs, and one lonely person was holding a Kucinich sign. I made my choice then that I'd vote for DK, even though I had fallen in love with Dean when I went to a rally months earlier in Copley Square. I don't regret it one bit, and still anticipated being able to vote for given his staying in the race so long in 2004.

And frankly, I find it to be amazing that anyone thinks she will do a goddamn thing for the GLBT community if she is President. Laughable, that is...She will throw us under the bus like all the rest, I have no reason to think otherwise. And all of that aside, *if* I vote for Obama, I'm voting for the lesser of two evils. IMO, it's worth it to try and get a real majority and permanently shift the mindset of those who can be reached.

Some people WILL stop following the hatemongers because they are exhausted and isolated and desperate for change.

70. It doesn't necessarily calm my worries
I still am so fucking angry at him for it, however, I explained my feelings in my OP and how I came to where I am now.

I also have some other issues which I explained in some posts above, which made my decision much more easy to deal with.

75. I wish I had a perfect candidate
I can only hope that the devil's pacts they made to get into office, disappear when they win.

No one proved how long you can fuck the little old church ladies (7 years and counting) who elected you, and who pray every night that you will end abortion, than George W.

72. Sniffa, vote your heart. And have fun at the rally!
I will post this once again, because everyone makes mistakes and Obama has supported LGBT issues long before he ever was a candidate for president.

Obama Statement on Pride Month
June 01, 2007

CHICAGO , IL-- U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) today released the following statement to commemorate Pride Month.

"Pride Month is a reminder that while we have come a long way since the Stonewall riots in 1969, we still have a lot of work to do."

"Too often, the issue of LGBT rights is exploited by those seeking to divide us. But at its core, this issue is about who we are as Americans. It's about whether this nation is going to live up to its founding promise of equality by treating all its citizens with dignity and respect."

"It's time to turn the page on the bitterness and bigotry that fill so much of today's LGBT rights debate. The rights of all Americans should be protected -- whether it's at work or anyplace else. "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" needs to be repealed because patriotism and a sense of duty should be the key tests for military service, not sexual orientation. Civil unions should give gay couples full rights. And those who commit hate crimes should be punished no matter whether those crimes are committed on account of race, religion, gender identity, or sexual orientation."

"This Pride Month, let's make our founding promise of equality a reality for every American."

76. I will vote my heart - I always do
It's one of the pleasures I have as being an Indie voter. I will always vote for the candidate that is either my candidate, or is the anti-candidate of the person I will never vote for.

I THINK Obama won't go against my best interests even though he's courting a block that completely fucking offends (or affends) me, but I still wish he'd denounce it. :(

As a "mostly Dem voting" indie, I don't always vote a straight Dem ticket. In fact, in 2006, I didn't vote for most of the Dems on our ticket. The 4 state Dems for our area had all (at that time) supported the gay-marriage ban, and had run unopposed; as such, I wrote in "Asshole" for each of them. The rest of the ticket for my pinko state had no Repubs as well, but quite a few had Green Party candidates, and I voted for every one of them, except for Delahunt, because he's fucking awesome.

80. How else could I have voted?
:hi:

However, after I voted, I found out that one of the 4 had reversed his earlier position against equality, and I felt bad.

That being said, when the issue was finally killed (and what a fucking wonderful day that was!) I think (not sure without researching) all of our state Senators and Representatives had voted for equality on that most awesome vote. :)

As you were the only person to respond to my thread in the Mass. forum, my childhood friend who is now a state Senator, is a big time GLBT supporter, and I'm so f'n happy he's finally in state government.

Rock on Anthony Galluccio! He's done Cambridge proud. :patriot:

That was one of the best moments of my life, other than our wedding...Fuck yes! I'm so proud of our State. And the sunburn I got protesting in front of the State House was worth it!! :D

77. Sniffa, where and what time is the rally on Monday?
Turns out I'll be in the city in the afternoon; depending on the when and where, I might be able to make it. I STILL haven't decided who to vote for on Tuesday, and I figure going to the rally might give me a better sense of Obama.
