CA Edwards Supporters Going Obama? - SFGate
<snip>

We'd love to be listening in on the conference call Sunday morning when Barack Obama -- and few of his top surrogates -- will be on the line with at least 50 top donors, organizers and grass roots door-knockers who supported John Edwards in California.

Already, at least three of Edwards' California co-chairs --- including San Franciscans Jeff Anderson and Jeff Soukup -- have decided to go O. Over the past few days Anderson has canvassed many key Edwards players across the state and found that about half are ready to move "and 90 percent of those are breaking for Obama."

Why? With the race tightening to a dead heat in California, many Edwards supporters realize they could provide the difference Tuesday, even without an official blessing from their (original) favorite candidate.

Anderson said Saturday that many of his fellow Edwardians feel that Obama has a better chance at "making real change in Washington as opposed to the back to the future kind that Clinton may bring."

"And many people I spoke with found their (the Clinton campaign's) use of the race card in South Carolina to be really distasteful," said Anderson, who with his partner Soukup raised $250,000 for Edwards and were members of his national finance committee.

Don't hold your breath waiting for an Edwards endorsement before Tuesday. Once he gives his blessing, he loses his leverage in the campaign: Getting both candidates to talk about poverty. But his peeps could have one by Sunday afternoon ...uh, hopefully before kickoff.

2. Well...
This sort of gives you an idea.

<snip>

As you recall, in the two weeks leading up to South Carolina, the Clinton campaign unveiled a calculated, sometimes subtle, sometimes not-so effort to paint Obama as the black candidate. Using surrogates, racially-charged code words, and finally the ultimate, highest-profile surrogate imaginable -- the Big Dawg, ex-President husband Bill -- they tried to force him into an identity politics corner.

African-Americans, highly sensitive to these kinds of tactics, immediately saw through them and began moving into the Obama camp in droves, as I suspect the Clintons knew they would. That was okay, even desirable. They were confident that, if Hillary won the nomination, they would return to the Democratic Party in the fall, and as Bill has often said, if you look past this election to the next one, you may not get there. While commentators were focusing on how bad Hillary was hurting herself with black voters, with whom she had always been popular, the real prize was the white vote.

Sure enough, polls leading into election day showed Obama pummelling Clinton among African-Americans, but more importantly, his support among whites had been driven down to as low as 10%. Had those numbers held, the ploy would have worked. But they didn't hold. Exit polls showed that while Obama indeed beat Clinton 4-1 among blacks, he also managed to hold on to 24% -- nearly a quarter -- of the white vote.

It's what got Ted Kennedy furious, and caused him to endorse\campagn for Obama.

5. I'm furious too...thanks, Willy.
This is one reason I needed to step away and maybe get out of politics forever! It didn't last that long, though.

I's kinda an example of instant Karma being the bitch she promises to be.

3. I switched from Edwards to Obama and today spent the whole
day canvassing in San Diego.

First very impressed with how well organized the campaign was. By the time I got home there was an email thanking me. The area was a combination of very low income appartments and middle class homes.

There were more Obama supporters than Clinton but their were a number of couples split and in all cases men went for Obama and women went for Hillary. We met 8 people who identified themselves as having been Edwards supporters and all of them were going for Obama.

"Have they found a cure for "DU DETERMINES THE OUTCOME OF THE ELECTION" syndrome yet?"

It's in aisle 3, next to the "WORKING FOR YOUR CANDIDATE HELPS MORE THAN ACTING LIKE AN IDIOT ON THE INTERNET" pills.

I could support either Obama or Hillary - especially, given their politically expedient, policies and 'performances' of the last two weeks.
