USA TODAY's Martha Moore is traveling today with Democrat Barack Obama. Chatting with reporters on his plane, he said Hillary Clinton is "still the favorite" on Super Tuesday when 22 states hold presidential nomination contests.
But Obama added that "if we’re on the ground and we’re campaigning, we’re very competitive. When folks know me and know my record, we do well. If they don't, she's got the advantages.'
Martha reports that Obama is having no trouble attracting crowds as he hops from city to city, trying to reach as many voters as possible before people tune out of politics and in to the Super Bowl.
This morning in Boise, she reports, he filled a 12,000 seat arena at Boise State University and left more outside listening to his speech on speakers. This afternoon he is in Minneapolis at the Target Center, where the Minnesota Timberwolves play, and the 20,000 seat arena is virtually full.
The schedule today is heavy on white states. This morning in Boise, Martha says,
Obama recalled that his chances were considered dim in Iowa because "everybody said 'the state doesn't look like him.'" That got a laugh from the nearly 100% white audience. Only 0.4% of Idaho's population is black.
