Obama Supporters: This is All You Need to Remember in the Days to Come:
We know the battle ahead will be long, but always remember that no
matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can withstand the
power of millions of voices calling for change.

We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics who will
only grow louder and more dissonant in the weeks to come. We've been
asked to pause for a reality check. We've been warned against
offering the people of this nation false hope.

But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been
anything false about hope. For when we have faced down impossible
odds; when we've been told that we're not ready, or that we shouldn't
try, or that we can't, generations of Americans have responded with a
simple creed that sums up the spirit of a people.

Yes we can.

It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the
destiny of a nation.

Yes we can.

It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail
toward freedom through the darkest of nights.

Yes we can.

It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores and
pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness.

Yes we can.

It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the
ballot; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land.

Yes we can to justice and equality. Yes we can to opportunity and
prosperity. Yes we can heal this nation. Yes we can repair this
world. Yes we can.

And so tomorrow, as we take this campaign South and West; as we learn
that the struggles of the textile worker in Spartanburg are not so
different than the plight of the dishwasher in Las Vegas; that the
hopes of the little girl who goes to a crumbling school in Dillon are
the same as the dreams of the boy who learns on the streets of LA; we
will remember that there is something happening in America; that we
are not as divided as our politics suggests; that we are one people;
we are one nation; and together, we will begin the next great chapter
in America's story with three words that will ring from coast to
coast; from sea to shining sea - Yes. We. Can.

Watch this: http://culturekitchen.com/liza/blog/text_barack_obamas_speech_in_new_hampshire
Listen to this: www.dipdive.com

And stay away from the petty and endless voices of the cynics here who tell us, "No You Can't". Because Yes, We Can.

Edited on Sun Feb-03-08 12:56 PM by Triana
...he needs to CHANGE his healthcare plan to one that will WORK (see Hillary's and Edwards's) and STOP pandering to nuclear interests who gave tons of money to his campaign. (and address the fact that he told his constituents he'll do A then did B instead - and NOW bragging that all that is a feather in his cap during his campaign)

Sheesh.

Bought and paid-for politician with a talent for poetic oratory.

LOOK INSIDE the box for chrissake. (nothing in there except the same ol same ol)

100. Here's some more "empty slogans"
for you. As you can see these 'empty slogans' have outlived life, and continue to inspire...some of us, though certainly not the 'hollow'.

“The future will not belong to those who sit on the sidelines. The
future will not belong to the cynics. The future belongs to those who
believe in the beauty of their dreams.”---Paul Wellstone

"What is objectionable, what is dangerous about extremists, is not that they are extreme, but that they are intolerant. The evil is not what they say about their cause, but what they say about their opponents."-- Robert F. Kennedy

"They attack the one man with their hate and their shower of weapons. But he is like some rock which stretches into the vast sea and which, exposed to the fury of the winds and beaten against by the waves, endures all the violence."--- Virgil

“A politics that is not sensitive to the concerns and circumstances of people's lives, a politics that does not speak to and include people, is an intellectually arrogant politics that deserves to fail.” ---Paul Wellstone

"The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by skeptics or cynics whose horizons are limited by the obvious realities. We need men who can dream of things that never were."
-- John Fitzgerald Kennedy

"Democracy is no easy form of government. Few nations have been able to sustain it. For it requires that we take the chances of freedom; that the liberating play of reason be brought to bear on events filled with passion; that dissent be allowed to make its appeal for acceptance; that men chance error in their search for the truth."-- Robert F. Kennedy

"With public sentiment, nothing can fail. Without it, nothing can succeed."-- Abraham Lincoln

71. the less pretty the better
Agreed. And the LESS pretty the better. If there was ever a time to KICK ASS it's now. We know the drill. Of course he's going to have to be "political" here and there. Disappointing, but inevitable. But that doesn't mean he (and ALL of us) can't be IN THEIR F_____ FACE when the election and world DEMANDS it. No, this is not going to be a pretty election and I think that's GREAT, because a candy ass "pretty" election (Hillary Clinton comes to mind) would be suicidal. And let's commit to making the post victory a hundred times LESS pretty than the election. This filth needs to be locked up, these murderers, liars, greed vampires, etc., etc., need to spend the next several years in the slammer. So 50% non pretty now, and 99% non pretty after we have the White House and Congress. Oh, how sweet it will be!

Romney is already trying to clip me for $4000/yr with a $4000 deductible like Hillary's plan. I don't need any Clinton dynasty telling me what I have to pay for. Obama does not plan to tag my paycheck like Hillary does. So Hillary's plan is GARBAGE!

36. You're just going to call everything any supporter says
"textbook cult" behavior. Only it's not. It's just a vague and ignorant accusation, which makes it clear that you don't have a clue as to what you're talking about.

I haven't any illusions about Obama. He's politician, and he's acted like it on several occasions. He's got an imperfect record. I don't think his health care plan is quite as good as Clinton's. He's voted for some legislation that I think sucks. I'm not thrilled with his relationship with Rezco. But for all that, there's more pluses than minuses to his candidacy- at least in my estimation. I like the work he's done on gov't transparency. I appreciate his foresight regarding the Iraq war. I like the legislation he introduced and ushered through the Illinois Senate mandating the taping of suspects of serious crime. In fact, I like his positions on crime. I appreciate his history of community organizing and his practice of civil rights law. I think it's great that he's an effective speaker and inspires people to become involved and vote.

None of that makes me a "cult member". It makes me a someone who's done her homework and has no illusions about the candidate I support. But go ahead, throw out the mindless crap about how Obama's supporters belong to a cult. It certainly does not make it true- no matter how many times you toss it out there.

49. It's a funny thing - I noticed the exact same thing about you.
Your way is the ONLY way, and anyone who disagrees with you gets shot down. It almost seems that you're trying to start a little cult of your own here on DU - those who agree with you, and only you.
"Scary stuff" indeed.

You talk down to people who don't agree with you - you don't like Obama, and anyone who does is a fool. You dislike Hillary, but not as much as you do Obama. Your self-importance is fascinating to read, and as I said previously the sheer number of posts you have managed in such a short time, have been so very helpful to me, because I am far too stupid to be able to make a rational decision on my own, just as you have accused almost all DU'ers of being - unless, of course, they agree with you.

I disagree with you, of course, but I do find it fascinating. You have managed to insult many long-time DU'ers, and get away with it because of the way you word your posts. You're clever, I'll give you that. I can't help but be impressed by one so prolific, who has all the answers, and believes they are such a gift to DU. Or maybe impressed isn't exactly the right word.

At any rate, I'm not a member of any cult, nor am I influenced by inflammatory posts. I made a decision quite a while back that Obama would be the best choice, and although he's done a couple of things I didn't like, I feel I made an educated and reasonable choice. I would never presume that my choice should be anyone else's choice, or that anyone who disagreed with my choice was not capable of making decisions on their own, as you do.

I, for one, am getting tired of all your posts insulting so many members of DU, most of whom have been here far longer than you, and I would guess, are quite capable of making rational, thoughtful choices of their own, without being lectured by some stranger, who has apparently decided they are the only one with any intelligence on this board.

Any group that says you must belong to their organization to be "saved" is a cult!

Be very suspicious of any group that claims to be better than all the others.

Ad Hominen attacks are a sure sign of cult-like thinking; belittle the messenger, to diminish the message.

Legitimate groups have nothing to fear by reading critical information about them.
I have never seen any group try as desperately as Obamites to control information.

40. 100% cult response
Exclusivism:

Cult members will tell you can only be "saved" (or can only be successful) in their organization alone ( sound familiar? )

Single charismatic leader.
People always seeming constantly happy and enthusiastic. Especially if you discover that they have been told to act that way for the potential new recruits.
Instant friends.
If you are told who you can or cannot talk to or associate with.
Say they are the only true group, or the best so why go anywhere else.
Hyped meetings, get you to meetings rather than share with you.
Experiential rather than logical.

I realize that "only hypocrite cannot forgive hypocrisy", as a great thinker and writer so famously said, but you really do push the limits of that saying with your pretentious nonsense.

I really really hope Obama wins Super Tuesday as I really don't know if I can live with a McCain vs. Hillary race for the Whitehouse. I would much rather see a young vs old, past vs future race rather than a nasty bitter ugly fight.

51. OBAMA can fix the country if we do the work. We need Edwards supporters.
We are fighting a primary battle where we need to rally the country, but the real work is going to be AFTER THE INAGURATION.

If you are a progressive, and you believe in corporate oversight, social programs, good education, health care, environmental/green issues, then please start organizing, perfecting your policies, and be ready to push this country to the left.

If this primary was over, we would be able to talk about specifics. Specifics that the Obama campaign is ready to talk about.

We need to fix The War on Drugs, The War on Terror, and The War on the Middle Class. None of this is simple or will be fixed easily. It takes dedicated people that believe in themselves, and the people that will take over after they leave. Do not trivialize the "bottom-up" and "top-down" realities of what Barack is talking about.

Obama in the white house is not the end. He is the beginning of the longest toughest battle we will ever have the chance to fight. Be happy we have a friendly ear.

I am finished with voting for corporate candidates, how much change can you get from someone who takes as much corporate money as either Obama or Clinton.

This is one Kucinich and Edwards supporter that can only vote green party if I have that choice or I won't vote at all. I'm sure there will be some third party candidate I could get behind, hell even Ron Paul, at least he's honest and doesn't change his positions.

52. Health care doesn't do anybody a bit of good if they're dead
If people the likes of Hillary Clinton hadn't authorized this war (and make no mistake about it, this issue is VERY important) then more people rather than less would have had an opportunity at the health care plan she proposes.

I know she is perhaps a good person but I can't help citing the idea that you can promote health and care then send people to die when you have the moral obligation to keep people healthy. That you could actually sign an authorization that means men and women will die because you want to look strong on defense looks like someone who didn't think things through.

Whether her health care in documentation is better than Obama's can be debated but when it comes to the sanctity of human life she choose to disregard it for artful politics.

That scares me a LOT. You aren't scared? Wow, gutsy!

I believe in Obama supporters. They are some of the best and brightest in the DU universe. They can indeed work wonders and they certainly do feel like a new bloom of democracy... but are they? their candidate is being advised by a man who CONSTRUCTED THE VERY POLICY that has landed in this war - he is Obama's Foreign Policy Advisor, for pete's sake. I'm just wondering if Obama supporters aren't being fooled into supporting a neocon puppet. ZB sort of closes the case for me. I'm serious. Obama may carry the election, and he will have you Obama die-hards to thank. and if he does, I am holding you accountable for your support for him. Better hope that he doesn't take ZB's eternal armageddon advice.

Here's ZB hanging out with Osama bin Laden: Much more all over the net - here's a discussion board: http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message487849/pg1 Just Google what ZB has written if you don't know about his basically being the Democratic Henry Kissinger.

I would love to support Obama, it looks like a great party. he has been able to exude that "party" vibe that has worked so well for *, but this time the dude's HIP. oh man, just what we need, a politically charged Burning Man 2008, hundreds of obama fanatics on acid, great, i can already see it happening. "all my friends" are boosting him, but this kind of stuff is like can't-sleep-at-night material (just like mccain possibly choosing jeb bush as his running mate). :tinfoilhat:

***We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics who will only grow louder and more dissonant in the weeks to come.***

Looking at the board this morning, illustrates the above quote very clearly.

Oh well, I'm remaining optimistic that for once in my life America will rise up and do the right thing. Reject the divide and conquer strategy of the corporate elite and choose a real unifier.

Dump the "we cant do that" attitude and pick a leader with a positive vision of the future.

When they moved onto New Hampshire Obama Stole Change from John...now Yes We Can has been stolen from my people...that is just enough for me!!..Understand ..Yes we can... is very important and sacred to the Hispanic...my family..who toiled in the fields...it is not a slogan to just be flung around...for people's election jollies...

now this..

TIME- video of Obama Sun. mocking Edwards

http://thepage.time.com/2008/02/03/obama-forgets-edwards-is-out-of-the-race/
Uses old gibe about debate answer Sunday to mock former rival whose supporters he is supposed to be courting.
What a nice touch- mocking Edwards for his debate admission that his compassion for the poor is also his weakness.

Obama is making my decisions for me..
