WILMINGTON — About 20,000 people turned out to hear presidential hopeful Barack Obama speak today in Rodney Square.

The estimate came from John Rigo, the city’s communications director.

In addition to the approximately 4,000 people in the square, another 4,000 lined up along its perimeter, police said.

Thousands of others filled nearby Market and King streets.

Wilmington Mayor James M. Baker said he hasn’t seen a turnout like today’s since President Johnson visited in the 1960s.

Keep in mind the population of Delaware is only 783,000. :)

3. Sheesh, his rallies just keep setting records.
I'm still reeling over the Boise one. Idaho never sees that many people come out for anything.
