What Would Happen if Hillary Clinton lost California?
MR. MURPHY: One poll--in all this forest of polls in a year where we've learned to be a little worried about these last-minute polls, there's one that if I were working for Hillary Clinton would scare the heck out of me, and that's California, because I've seen a private poll, similar numbers, about two points, and he's been picking up almost a half point to a point a day. And everything happens first in California, and that's a good bellwether. If it's bad there, it's going to be bad everywhere.

MR. RUSSERT: What would happen if Hillary Clinton lost California?

MR. CARVILLE: It would be bad. It would be really bad.

MR. RUSSERT: Really bad.

MR. CARVILLE: Yeah, it really would. I just know. I'm for her, I love her to death, I think she would be a great president, but losing in--I mean, I guess if she carried a bunch of other states, generally what happens--and I agree with Bob--generally what happens is, is that it breaks in favor of one candidate or the other on Election Day.

The other thing I would say, I don't know a political professional who would place any stalk in a 36-34 poll. There is just not that big...

MR. SHRUM: Right.

MR. MURPHY: Right, right.

MR. CARVILLE: ...of undecideds in California. I promise you that. Now, I don't want to have a Field poll down on me, but there's not a political professional in the world that wouldn't automatically discount a 36-34 poll right now.

MR. RUSSERT: Forty-eight hours before an election.

1. Even if she lost --it won't be by much
and delegates are awarded proportionally.

Carville is just playing with yer head.

6. You don't understand ...
... If Obama wins California, the media narrative on Wednesday will be a killer for Hillary. Even if the delegates are close, Hillary losing California would be the narrative for a week.

It would be like Obama losing South Carolina.

5. The funny thing here is
Murphy is a slimy repuke who worked for some of the sleaziest Repuke pols ever including Ollie North.

That said, he usually is very astute, moreso than say Mr. Shrum who less than "shined" while runny Kerry's campaign.

10. I have to admit
It wouldnt be death, but it would make it alot harder for her. She would like to get a 60-40 split in delegates.

12. the sun would rise the next day and it will be off to the next states
in the primary race..it`s not if they win or lose, it`s how many delegates they have at the end of the race...

15. This is exactly why Carville and Begala aren't commentators at CNN for now
Carville, and Shrum'I never won a campaign in my life for anyone' and I love Hillary too Shrum, are both not to be considered independent in these interviews. They are joined at the hip to the DLC and Hillary in particular. Discounting this poll is part and parcel of the Hillary surrogates and they are surrogates for her. Russert is again allowing people to comment without revealing their long standing strong ties to the Clinton political machine of which they are integrally a part, even if not employed currently.

Clinton's 2 point lead is backed up by the Field Poll, the most reliable in the state. Further, Obama is picking up points at the rate of .5 to 1 every day here.
