POLL: Obama 49 (+16), Hillary 46 (+4)
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 07:33 AM by jefferson_dem
CNN poll gives Obama 3-point edge; McCain a 15-point lead

CNN just reported on the air that its latest national poll also signals the Democratic presidential nomination race is basically a tie -- but that Sen. Barack Obama has a slight lead over Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The CNN/Opinion Research survey puts Obama's support among registered Democrats at 49%. Clinton's support: 46%. The margin of error: +/-4.5 percentage points.

Compare those numbers to the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, which Jill reported about yesterday and in the newspaper this morning. That showed Clinton's support at 45% and Obama's at 44%. (Full results here.)

Previous measurement reflected above was taken on 1-14.

5. You'd better read Today's NYT!
Our top economist discredits Obama's Health Plan
and says it will tailspin:

If you combine the economic analysis with these political realities, here's what I think it says: If Mrs. Clinton gets the Democratic nomination, there is some chance -- nobody knows how big -- that we'll get universal health care in the next administration. If Mr. Obama gets the nomination, it just won't happen.

17. On the other hand...
snip
The most disturbing thing about his column in today's NY Times is that he's dead wrong. A mandate without enforcement, which is what Clinton's plan proposes, won't cover any more people than Obama's plan. Over 90 of the nation's most prominent health policy scholars recently signed a letter to this effect (I've reprinted the letter with the names of the signers at the bottom.) Krugman is just picking the experts who agree with him - but the balance of opinion is that mandates don't matter.
snip

Krugman is not some sort of god.
