Cindy Sheehan is a genius, stayed out of this mess.
If there was ever anyone that could be held up as a DU hero, it was Cindy. After seeing the kinds of venom spewed toward endorsers for either candidate, she is looking smarter by the day. Am sure I'm not the only one that remembers the spewing and STFUs that were flung at her for speaking from her heart and personal experience re: Chavez. What would happen if she came out now? Joe Wilson, Caroline Kennedy, and many more coming forward have earned the right (all of us have the same right, by the way) to express his opinion and I respect that. We here at DU have self-identified as Democrats and are now locked in a nomination contest that is way outside of any box we've seen before. I will neither weep nor crow for the eventual candidate, but will buckle down and work to get our candidate elected. Endorsements are now coming hot and heavy from each camp, that is to be expect on the eve of such an important series of primaries/caucuses. I just hope that the level of hyperbole on both sides doesn't calcify their proponents into a position that is so hardened that the turns that will be necessary on both sides to win in the GE don't break the back of the party again.

Folks we have two remaining candidates, either one should make us proud to be a Democrat. Let's not do things that make them ashamed that we are.

4. Thanks for reinforcing my point
An early DK endorsement is but another sign of her foresight.

5. Let's keep a good thought for the Blue Star parents, too.
The folks that have to endure the 12/14/18 months of hell waiting while their children (spouses/parents/siblings/friends) serve in the war zones. And don't forget the pain and dread of wondering when the next rotation will come or the horror of reliving what they have seen and experienced. This malAdministration has visited untold damage on the America we thought we knew.

6. She did make an endorsement: Dennis Kucinich
http://rawstory.com/comments/26455.html

It's a good thing she did that. Otherwise Kucinich may have lost every primary by wide margins and had to go back to his district to fight off strong primary challengers.

7. Yeah, a year ago she let us know her preference
then has pushed her face in front of the cameras ever since? A clearly antiwar activist supported the clearly antiwar candidate. Guess you could accuse her of starting the venom we are seeing today.

8. the remaining candidates
should make us proud to be a Democrat? Cough cough.

I guess it depends what kind of Democrat you are. A pro-business Democrat will be fine with the candidates. A pro-people Democrat won't.

Once again there is no solution for liberals that has any meaning.

9. You seem to imply that pro-business and pro-people are contradictory terms
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 04:55 PM by Freddie Stubbs
I don't believe that this is the case, and judging from the success John Edward's campaign, I don't think that most Democrats believe that either.

12. Anyone who thinks
that Big Business has the people's best interests at heart is delusional.

JE addressed that contradiction head on. But he was not popular with the corporate wing of the Dem party. It is clear that he was eliminated before too many average people in the country would even get the message. Political maneuvering by corporate interests silenced John Edwards in favor of more corporate friendly candidates, who have the advantage of much more media coverage and celebrity.

10. Is there anything to be proud of on the other side?

11. No
but that's not the point. The 'other side' has obviously sunk even lower.

If you are satisfied with the candidate just because they are not a greed-driven corporate toady or a criminal, that's certainly not expecting very much. Especially if you're what is (generally) considered to be a liberal.

This kind of black & white bipolar political thinking is turning us into a nation of simplistic automatons who know no shades of grey. Our country and economy now thrives on "us vs them" adversarial behavior. This is negative and not beneficial in addressing the problems we face.
