and I don't even watch them on TV, but I've had chronic bronchial infections that caused persistent coughing fit, up to an hour at a time. Air travel exacerbated the condition, as did stress. Cough drops and syrups had minimal effect. It wasn't fun: eventually a steroid inhaler stopped it, or so it seems.

At least she's not throwing up on foreign dignitaries.
