The past several days have placed me in a strange position.
I have grown to dislike Hillary Clinton more and more every year since she because the Senator from New York.

And yet, with Edwards out of the race, I'm finding myself in the odd position once again of having to choose between the lesser of two evils.

And although I'm pretty much trying to remain neutral from now through the convention, I must say all the unknowns about Barack Obama give me the creeps. At least with Hillary I pretty much know what to expect. He's a loose canon, and seems to be the kind of person all the wrong people could get their hands on and mold him in their image. I suspect that's the thinking behind the recent Kennedy family endorsements - become influential enough in his campaign to exert some damage control.

So although I'm still voting Edwards tomorrow, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for Hillary to win at the convention.

1. I hear that...
I voted for Edwards, absentee, the day before he announced the towel hitting the ring. I'm glad I did, and would do it again.

Unfortunately, so many have chosen their candidate, between these two, for the oddest reasons. I think it's a coin toss... cult of personality. Pity.

I'll vote for whomever gets the nom, because I want a Democrat in office just that badly!

2. I pretty much feel the same way you do.

Hillary has done some good things, she's not all bad, but she's no John Edwards.

Barack Obama scares the hell out of me. His plans don't really explain how he's going to do all he says he's going to do. His desire to reach out to the GOP terrifies me, because we know that's a one way road, and we're going the wrong way.

I'm concerned about Obama's hypocrisy in stating he supports gays, yet he allows someone to preach about being cured of homosexuality. And by doing so, he insulted a large group of people.

And now we're down to deciding who's going to be the least offensive in the White House for the next 4 to 8 years, if they can beat the GOP and its election fraud.

How's that for a kick in the head? :banghead:

3. Fear of the unknown is a cognitive motivator for conservative behavior
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 04:33 PM by HereSince1628
Only you can really decide what your uncertaintly means to you personally, but I find it interesting that it is uncertainty that is motivating you. Why? Because my own conservative behavioral response is taking me the other way!

What I know about the DLC and its adherents frightens me away from Hillary. Interestingly enough fear is also a cognitive motivator for conservative behavior.

10. It's not just uncertainty that is motivating me.
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 10:29 PM by Seabiscuit
Obama doesn't even know the issues, much less how to articulate them. Which is why he evades it all with empty revivalist-style speeches about "change" and "hope", using them as mere campaign slogans. His discussion in the last debate of his proposed health plan was the most misconceived mish-mash of thoroughly disorganized thoughtlessness I think I've ever heard of. I got absolutely nothing out of it.

Because no one really knows where he stands, including himself, Obama represents a danger to all progressives - he simply cannot be trusted to move our cause forward because he praises Ronald Reagan one day and claims to be the reincarnation of MLK, RFK, JFK, FDR Cesar Chavez, (and who knows who's next? - Ghandi or Jesus H. Christ) on another. As such he's the perfect pawn for any unscrupulous group and can be made into anyone's puppet, just like George Bush.

It's not uncertainty, but certainty that motivates me - certainty that Obama cannot be trusted to represent our interests in office.

At least with Hillary you know where she will and won't help.

4. i feel the same way
i'm more than a little worried about obamas change and hope chant. not because i'm against change and hope but because i think he's using them as slogans. i haven't heard him say exactly what or how he intends to bring change. i disagree with a lot of what hillary stands for, but i don't think she would surprise me either

5. Seabiscuit, that's my dilemma, as well...
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 04:41 PM by Blue_In_AK
I've said all along that Obama was the one candidate in this race that we didn't "know." All of the others had long records or had been in our consciousness, at least, for a while. Obama suddenly appeared out of nowhere, thrust into the limelight at the 2004 convention, and now all of a sudden he's the one to save us? It just doesn't ring true to me. I have never supported Hillary, but at least I know where she stands. That is, KNOW where she stands ... not wishing and hoping. If I have to vote for Obama in November, I'll do it with my fingers crossed and a prayer.

I am "uncommitted" at the caucus unless I can join other Edwards supporters.

7. I pretty much agree with you. I wanted Joe Biden and was devestated
when he dropped out, but I do understand it. I must remember not to be influenced by any of the posters here for either of the candidates. They are toxic and hopefully do not represent their candidates. I admire Hillary for numerous reasons, I admire Barack for numerous reasons. I too, am in a quandry, just going to wait and see how this all plays out. I'm in Florida,....'nuf said.

9. I liked Bidens war solution, The guy is the tops in my book.
I quickly went to Hillary once he was out. It is a SHAME the media's hype crushed him, he should have been given an opportunity.
Hillary to me seems to be the next best candidates to Biden on the war, She is the next best candidate to Edwards on domestic issues and probably the best on the economy.

Her two seconds and one first lead me to no other option then to hope she wins and support her.

You people had fine candidates and I respect your choice, I just hope it does not spoil Hillarys chances....She is clealy our best viable option now on the issues Biden and Edwards were the best on,,,,and she will fix the economy.
