Mediaweek: Hallmark Channel reaches 84 million US households
Let's hope they all tuned in!

(This thread is a response to the cheerful souls who insisted that no-one receives Hallmark, or if they do, no-one watches it, or if they do, they all hated Hillary's town hall meeting.)

4. Reaches and Viewership are two completely seperate things.
Please be correct in your assessment.

I receive the Hallmark channel, but we have it blocked in our tivo guide list - so to me, it doesn't even exist.

7. i am conscious of that
But we don't have viewing figures for the town hall right now. Given that Hillary highlighted it at the end of the LA debate, I'm guessing a lot of people tuned in who might not have done otherwise. Especially intelligent undecideds looking for more information.

13. ah, but it was put out there at what I think I heard was the highest rated debate ever
I'm pretty sure, I'll have to check that.

Suffice it to say, Hallmark channel probably got its biggest plug ever on CNN during that debate. It would be a safe assumption to expect tonight's event was seen by a far larger audience than a typical, primetime episode of whatever ususally runs on Hallmrak.

I've never watched the channel myself, until tonight.

20. I havn't watched it before either
But I think her plug at the end of the debate might have helped with viewership. Don't forget letterman.

12. Reality check: Hallmark averages about 1.1 million viewers in prime time
http://tvdecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/02/04/super-tuesday-hallmark-channel-televises-hour-long-clinton-commercial/

Mrs. Clinton’s town hall potentially reached over one million viewers; in the fourth quarter of 2007, the Hallmark Channel averaged almost 1.1 million households in prime time. The cable channel is available in 84 million homes.

The telecast represented the first time that the Hallmark Channel has turned an hour of programming over to a political advertisement. The channel was described last week by The Times’s Sewell Chan as being best known “for sentimental tearjerkers, didactic after-school specials and adaptations of well-loved serial juvenile fiction.”

A spokeswoman for the Hallmark Channel said the network’s Chicago advertising sales unit was approached by the Clinton campaign last Monday. The network decided to sell the ad time on Wednesday; it was announced on Thursday. Neither party has identified the price of the advertising time.

The chief executive of the Hallmark Channel reached out to the other leading presidential candidates to make advertising time available to them as well, the spokeswoman said.

16. i was highlighting reach, not viewer numbers
They're two distinct things.

After the LA debate plug, I think we'll see an improvement on the million-plus average, anyhow.

25. Don't get it here
She paid for the time and it's perfectly fine. Just hope they got some balance by looking at Obama too, not just from a single-candidate townhall where the campaign controlled the message.
