Rasmussen NJ Poll: Clinton 49 (+0), Obama 43 (+6)
New Jersey Democratic Presidential Primary
New Jersey: Clinton 49% Obama 43%
Monday, February 04, 2008

As the Super Tuesday campaigning winds down, New York Senator Hillary Clinton’s lead in neighboring New Jersey has fallen to single digits. The final Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of the Garden State Primary found Senator Hillary Clinton attracting 49% of the vote while Senator Barack Obama earned 43%.

That six point lead for the former First Lady is down from a twelve-point lead earlier in the week. Three weeks ago, Clinton led Obama by eighteen percentage points.

Clinton’s support, at 49%, is unchanged from earlier in the week. Obama has picked up six percentage points since the previous poll.

The candidates are essentially even among male voters while Clinton has a ten-point lead among women. Earlier in the campaign, she had a much larger lead among women.

As in many other states, Clinton does best among senior citizens while Obama is strongest among the youngest voters.

Obama and Clinton are tied among the Garden State’s politically liberal Democratic Primary Voters. Clinton leads among moderate and conservative Democrats.

Forty-four percent (44%) of the state’s voters view the economy as the top voting issue for Election 2008. Twenty-three percent (23%) say it’s the War in Iraq while 13% believe Health Care topics are the highest priority.

2. No. in her backyard her lead is around 20%
Obama supporters love to choose NJ as Clinton's "backyard" for some strange reason (She's not NJ senator) just because the lead there is less than NY.

5. Backyard can mean a border state. Central-North Jersey is a suburb of NYC

midtown Manhattan. Hoboken is literally a stone's throw. You can tell the people who know nothing about the tri-state region.

When you have neighboring states like NY/NJ where residents, in large numbers commute across the borders daily to work, shop and play, AND share local media (TV and radio) that IS being in the other's "backyard." Such a relationship exists between NY and NJ.

6. You must not be from NJ

I am, and NY/NJ are typically very instep with each other.

People also seem to forget there is a whole NY outside of NYC.

9. And logic tells you that Hillary must get more support in NY than NJ
Because even if we accept the theory that NJ is her "backyard", NY is much more of a backyard, since it's the state she's senator of.

But Obama supporters act surprised that NJ's lead is not bigger. what is exactly the lead that Hillary must have in NJ in order for you not to act surprised? As big as NY?

10. NJ is considered by Many to be one of Clinton's Firewall states.
In the beginning of December her lead stood at 34, and right after Iowa, it was still above 20.

15. The new Zogby has her recapturing a 6 pt lead. So she will likely
carry the state. But it could be very close.

18. I'm unsure about those numbers. Im hoping and thinking there could be a super bowl effect
NJ is extremely fertile territory for the Giants and I think the Super bowl and Super bowl Sunday polling favors Clinton.

Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 12:20 AM by Azathoth
There's a lot of unaffiliated voters there who are going to be voting for the first time in a primary.

19. The topic is New Jersey.
The topic is New Jersey. I offered comments about New Jersey's corrupt polticians and reputation for same, and your response was to attack me, as if I am personally responsible for Tom Delay and what Texas does, which is irrelevant to this thread.

I don't talk to people who can't understand the difference in the relevance of my post and the inappropriateness of your response, so we won't need to be talking any more. Have fun typing non sequiturs and chasing your tail. I'm sure it keeps you entertained and busy.
