There's no doubt in my mind that Hillary supporters are the real cult followers
They ignore reality and focus on gender. They rewrite history re the IWR vote. They can see no wrong in anything she does. They can't admit that she's a polarizing figure to the general public. They insist that there can be no new scandals over the last 7 years despite front page NYT stories. And this is exactly what cult members do: shut out reality. Furthermore, Hillary supporters are constantly prattling about her looks and her warmth,
They don't talk about her policies but about how capable and strong she is. All of these are clear signs of a cult of personality. There's clear evidence that the real cultists are Hillary supporters.

See how easy that is? Facile bullshit, but not so easy to refute.

and it's clear as can be why some Hillary supporters are pushing that meme. It's mean spirited and insulting, and that's the ONLY purpose those doing it have.

7. Calling supporters a cult or Kool Aid drinker or 'bots, demeans people, particular fellow DU'ers,
who may have opinions differing from your own.

This applies in both, and all, directions.

The object of such devotion.

43. Most of what I have seen on here is baseless Hillary bashing.
And not much to support Obama's positions except to bash Clinton's.

In second would be all the useless daily polls.

Either supporters don't know why they are supporting their candidate or it is on flimsy reasons and they feel the only way to support their candidate is to attack the opponents. I have seen too many facts that were not true.

I doubt that all of the "facts" are going to change the minds of many on this board and definitely won't be enough to make a difference in the primaries.

26. cali, I have only discussed facts since being here.
And when I do so with the vast majority of Obama supporters, I get ridiciulued, insulted, and basically marginalized because I'm not supporting the 'right' candidate.

You are completely wrong here, and being unable to see the obsessive nature of the loudest and most vitrolic Obama supporters just makes you look bad.

30. The exact same thing happens to Obama supporters...
...it is the same on both sides but we naturally have an ascertainment bias when we are the ones whose opinion is being attacked. It is natural for you, and I, to perceive attacks on things we agree with more than attacks on things we disagree with.

I do not understand why people on DU must insist that the supporters of the other candidate are more vitriolic.

So I think it is you who are not seeing the "obsessive nature of the loudest and most vitrolic supporters", but I don't think that makes you look bad because I can understand and feel the same way in the opposite direction.

37. No, it's not. I've seen Obama supporters post completely assinine crap to "win" some debate.
Long long walls of text in order to drown out any dissenting opinion. You compare the candidates' various plans, and in the end they're quite similar (remarkably similar, really), but Hillary's are superior and more coherent on health care, immigration and environment. This is indisputable, I've defended both.

So because those plans are similar, the argument *always* devolves into a character attack, it has very little to do with the substance of the argument. The vast majority of attacks on Hillary are completely assinine, they don't actually discuss the merits of their plans. I've seen dozens and dozens of posts drowned out by mentioning IWR (completely off the topic of discussion) by unbelievably overzealous Obama supporters. I don't support the, maybe, tops, 10 HRC supporters who post the Rezko crap, but even *they* aren't as zealous about it inundating every single discussion. I have had to work overtime here trying to get people to get into a point-counter-point discussion. In fact, this is the first time since I've been online that I've actually had to spend extra effort trying to get people to connect with me. It's insane.

And it's simple, the reason Obama supporters are more vitrolic: *there are more Obama supporters here*. The internet brings out the worst in people. If there are more of "them" than there are of "us" then statistically there will be more of "that" from "them."

39. I perceive the same thing and you know better than I do what I perceive?
When you say, "Hillary's are superior and more coherent on health care, immigration and environment. This is indisputable...", that is an unreasonable thing to say. Other people look at things and think about them and come to different conclusions, and it is you who are telling me that my opinion is not as good as yours?

You claim superiority on the issues, and victimhood in a climate where it is coming from both sides.

40. It's not about opinions, it's about objectively determining which policies are more progressive.
If you do not support progessive policies, then fine, your merits are different than mine. And you can say it's better on whatever you base it on. As discussions go it requires further refinement to know what one means, now you know what I mean by "better."

I find it interesting that you chose to pick that word to attack my commentary, though, rather than just to ask what I meant by better.

I'm kind of tired of the pointless name-calling around here.

The way I see it - both Hillary and Obama deserve our respect.

Hillary is incredibly smart. A strong debater and a tough fighter.

Obama is inspiring. He connects with young people and swing voters.

We should all get ready to support whoever wins the nomination.

49. Personally I don't like the term 'cult' associated with any Democratic candidate.
After a short time away from DU, esp. prior to Skinner setting up the primary forum, I was surprised when I returned to find Obama supporters being referred to as members of a cult. Generally speaking, the term usually has negative connotations. I was insulted by the word but I think you have a point in saying that Hilliary's supporters could also be "cultists".

If the Hillary supporters want to continue with such nonsense it's fine but I hope they're ready to take responsibility for coining the term when the repukes pick up on it in the run up to the general election. I think the term should be dropped...period.
