Final Oprahization of this country
For years I have been complaining about people exposing their troubles and hurt in public, and this was even before the Internet and Facebook. And, of course, we expect to know every single detail about public officials.

When a family faces a tragedy, microphones and TV cameras are stuck in their faces and... they go along. I don't watch much TV where such stories are told, but have never seen anyone tell the reporters to go to hell.

And today, with cell phones that can record events, one has to be very careful about every single movement, facial expression, seat, even waving an insect flying over one's head.

I suspect that if someone will try to ask for privacy, for space and time to grieve in private, he will be considered a weirdo, un-American even.

So when Kerry lost in 2004 and Oprah immediately chose Obama, who just won a Senate seat, most dismissed her.

No longer. As a matter of fact, we should abolish the expensive system that we have now and just let her pick our next representatives.

And everyone will be happy and swoon.

1. I'm pissed they're giving her the Discovery Health Channel ...
now instead of watching knee surgeries and such, we'll probably have exclusive movies made from her "Book of the Month" selections.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Because you say it'll suck makes it true? You may not like but that is your personal opinion.

4. Really? Never voted? And she is suppoed to set an example?
Or, perhaps, she imagines herself a teenager who just now found her idol, like that girl in the YouTube dancing for Obama.

I think her residence is in Indiana. The one she votes in.

10. I wish Obama would run from this endorsement.
She is the person who gave us Dr. Phil, and the person who didn't vet the James Frey book. Her track record isn't exactly stellar.

16. Sadly, I know 3 people
who changed their votes after Oprah's endorsement. They were firmly in the Clinton camp and decided that even though they weren't completely impressed by Obama, if Oprah was, that's all they needed to know.

Wow. I'm stunned. I would never change my vote just because a celebrity made an endorsement.

17. This is sad
Endorsements - by anyone - should be just that, recommendations.

It is up to us to study the candidates, talk to other people, ask questions and then decide but, then, most voters are too lazy to do that. I wonder how many were persuaded by that Obama girl on YouTube.

and helped Bush lie us into a war - that's the better choice.

I'm sorry - but there are a lot of plain out FOOLS on this web site.

28. DUers know the difference
and know what the Clintons have done and just don't give a shit. People out in America, they don't pay attention to the details and have never heard of the DLC or a neocon. They trust the "Democrats" and have no idea that there are some who share the same ideals as the neocon globalists.

32. The policies are the same
Lost jobs, lost benefits, meaningless tax credits, punitive policies all the way around. And that's what Clinton politics brings us too. Along with lies, corruption and bitter divisive partisan mud slinging.

Who elected Bush over Kerry? Old People.

Who is electing Hillary now? Old People.

There you go.

There are differences among the rethugs.

Obama and Clinton have 0 differences on economic issues.

Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 10:44 PM by Hill_YesWeWill
I'm assuming you are a Hillary supporter too?

Oprah is a free woman, and I do believe that women should NOT be denied the right to vote so . . . what do you want me to say?

We as a people are Free to vote our choice, and if you do not understand that then I have serious doubt that you are at heart a democrat!

35. I don't have a television
and I dislike most everyone else who is popular. But I simply love Oprah. When I heard that she had endorsed Obama, I knew that it would have a huge impact. A whole lot of people love her. It is an emotional thing. And not something to dismiss as I heard a lot of pundits doing at first.

My vote was cast on the endorsement of my nephew who fought in both Iraq and Afghanistan and is now home fighting to end the war in Iraq. He wanted us all to vote for Obama.
