WRITE HERE: Please post you voting day story here.
I'll get the ball rolling.

Work is all abuzz about the primary but everyone's too PC to discuss. I ask one older (older than me) woman if she'd voted yet. She hadn't yet but would be tonight. When we got into it she mentioned that she's afraid that if she votes for Hillary that she (meaning Hillary) after a year would turn into some kind of shedevil and cause havoc. Ok.... Aaand that "you know, Bill's going to be right under her desk tellin' her what to do."

She's voting Obama.

Please K&R

2. It went smoothly
I voted in Manhattan and was the only voter there. We used the old-fashioned voting machines that work very well. These are the same machines, more or less, that I used when I originally voted in the 1970s. I believe they've been in use since the 1950s.

Lever machines work fine and have for decades.
The old machines are made fun of but I have never doubted over the years that my vote was counted properly. My polling place had one or two voters at each station at 7am. I met a woman from my apartment building on my way out. This is more activity than I have ever seen on a primary day.

8. Oh, I always wanted to vote on one of those machines!
My mother would always take me with her to vote, and one of my oldest memories is how excited I'd get when she'd pull the lever that closed the curtain. :-)

I never got to vote on one... by the time I could vote, we were using the punch-chads. :-(

4. I turned 3 votes from Obama to Hillary
They all thought he was in the Senate at the time of the vote which is why he says he was against the war from the start.

Once the realized he wasn't actually faced with the vote etc.. they thought it was a lame tactic and switched based on the fact she had access to data he did not.

All 3 of these people called me and said though they love Obama's inspiration when it came time to vote they hesitated.

This is going to be a crazy day.

15. "access to data" - what you mean she read the intelligence reports?
Hillary said in the last CNN debate that she trusted the President to do the right thing and the Whitehouse had personally assured her that they just wanted to put pressure on Saddam so Iraq would cooperate fully with the UN inspectors.

So it was not about data, but about believing the Bush-Cheney Administration and giving them the benefit of the doubt. Above all, whatever it took to avoid looking weak on so-called "national security" (not that invading Iraq has made America any safer).

5. Our tradition, since my son was in a stroller, has been the 2 of us going to the polling place
together. He's gone with me every year since he was born to watch me vote. He can't wait to vote himself! That makes me happy.:) I was there at 7:15 this morning. There was probably 10 people there? I voted for Hillary and left.:)

Our polling place usually gets busy after 5:00 P.M.

7. Just got back from voting
for Hillary. The lady next to me checked Republican for the primary in which she was voting. I held my tongue but I wanted to yell out Anyone who votes Republican is an idiot. I told my daughter and she was surprised I didn't do it.

Also, I live in Michigan so I got my ability to vote for the candidate of my choice stripped away from me so I've got nothing to do.

10. 7:30 AM, Chicago Pct 11, Ward 44
A big turn out for the hour, line for each precinct (there were 4 at my polling place) was 5 to 8 deep and getting longer.

voting smooth with the felt pen, most seemed to avoid the token e-voting machines. Smooth process, and some challenges were happening to people who had issues with their voter cards. One guy showed a utility bill and got challenged.

Everybody was friendly and there was a very positive vibe in the room.

Also, the stack of Dem ballots on the table had been depleted by 1/2 compared to the Repug pile. since the headers on the ballots were color coded it was easy to see that 75% of the people there were voting in on the Dem ballot. Not surprising in Chicago, and not surprising in IL where the GOP is a total joke.

13. I voted early for John Edwards, but I do have an election day
story to share.

My place of work has a sales meeting every Tuesday morning with about 50 in attendance. On any election day we always pass out ballots to test what the results of our group are. This morning the two winners were McCain and Hillary. Obama did not get one single vote. Two of us voted for Edwards.

One of my co-workers is a die-hard Republican and Ohio State fan. He has a big red magnetic "O" on the back of his vehicle. I went up to him and said, "I am surprised you are supporting Obama!"

16. We voted inka vote in CA this A. M.
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 01:04 PM by jcla
at 7:00 we were at the polls and they were crowded. Two precincts together must have been at least thirty people waiting in line to vote. There was even a young man from his high school helping with the voting. I was so proud and thanked him. Good to see young people involved! Clear but windy in L.A. so the precinct workers were taking about a high turn out! Hope so! But even in bad years... non-presidential we have a high turn out.

19. Fulton, New York: I voted ten minutes after the polls opened at noon
and saw my neighbor who I didn't even know was a Democrat! This is in a very heavily Republican precinct. No Republicans in sight.
