This was not easy for me. But I voted, and it wasn't for who I went in supporting.
I originally supported John Edwards.

I supported him for a year, and I was shocked like all of you when he dropped out.

So once he dropped out, I was up in the air.

I leaned towards Hillary.

Leaned towards Obama.

Leaned towards just voting for Edwards anyway.

But I decided on Obama. I didn't know exactly if he was all hype, and all happy talk. I liked his rhetoric, and that seemed enough for me. Not a bunch of substance there, mostly all sizzle and no steak. But I made my mind up: Obama!

Until today.

I walked in, and waited in line. This was my first primary.

I waited for twenty minutes and had a lot of older voters congratulating me and saying it was great to see a young person out voting.

I sat down, and started to mark the arrow for Obama.

Let out a sigh, and then started to mark it for Edwards.

Went back and forth between them, and finally just shaded in the arrow for Hillary.

Don't ask me why, I know where she stands. I know where she'll take the country, and I'm fine with it. I may not always agree with her, but I think she'll bring about the change she's talking about on the campaign trail. I wasn't so sure of that about Obama. I liked his rhetoric, but I wasn't sure he could pull it off. Especially with the fact that Hillary is talking about the issues, and in very big detail.

So I admit it. I flip-flopped.

At least six times in the past week or so since Edwards dropped out.

But I voted for Hillary Clinton.

Hillary Clinton is most certainly electable.

And she could beat McCain with ease.

As could Barack.

59. It's good to see numerous Obama supporters standing up in this thread!
At least three Obama supporters have repudiate the rude initial responses to this thread, and it makes me proud to be a fellow Democrat. I hope that Hillary supporters will respond politely - even enthusiastically - to posts from new voters today, even if they chose the other Democratic candidate.

It's all about supporting the Democrat in the end.

72. Obama people have gotten a lot of shit recently
for being nasty, sexist and this and that. I really feel a need to come out and represent that we're not all like that. DU has gotten crazy recently and I think it's important to come out and be unified. I've had discussions with some really flamebaiting Hillary people that for some reason I was able to have a respectful conversation with. We can have disagreements about who is the better candidate for whatever reason, but I think that at the end of the day we should all realize that we're here for the same reason.

I have seen Frenchiecat dedicate herself to advancing the Obama candidacy. She often provides
great information and prospective.

She is passionate as we all are. If you disagree with the impetus for that passion, it may seem like anger to you.

And there is lots of passion on all sides here. It just depends on what side you are on as to how you see it.

I agree with Frenchie.
Of course you can vote for whomever you want and choose that person however you want.

That is what voting is about.

But you did vote for the candidate that is most likely to lose in a race against John McCain.

The polls support that and it is fact. The only thing that will bring the Republicans home is Hillary.

Sorry, but the Republicans are hoping that we will give her the nod.

On the contrary, I suspect that some of these so-called Obama supporters will cut and run for a Republican, even if Obama is the nominee. Some very nasty people pretending to support Obama. He deserves better supporters, imo.

105. The well mannered supporters of each candidate mostly stay out of the poopit, Flyarm.
And most of the poo flinging supporters are...less than what they seem. Or is it more than what they seem?;)

Heck, you know me as an honest broker (I hope!) and I find much to like in each of them.
I can name the pros and cons of each, or analyze their weaknesses and strengths against several repug opponents...but the "supporters" corrode the information to the degree that quotes are misused and taken out of context, faux outrage abounds, and before you know it, you have these false impressions of a "fuming Bil" or "Michelle won't support our nominee" or "Fake crying, just BURSTING into tears" -- Oh god I have seen it all. Sometimes the best of us can get caught up in it.

Hell, Obama admitted as much, and that he needed to focus on the kids, on the future. I think the "grownups" moment, when John suspended, was a wakeup call to not marginalize each other, as the stakes are too high to risk more neocon rule.

I don't like to see damage done to the point we have to heal, rather than be ready to take on the regressives - better that we push both candidates to incorporate as much of John's message and influence into each of their campaigns, and the world sees our leading candidates, black and white , woman and man, looking to create a future without a Guantanamo, without neocons and oilmen at the levers of power.

I am better than that. I KNOW YOU are better than that.
I want YOU to fight alongside me - WHOEVER the nom is, because I know what a true-hearted fighter you are.
My partner is still considering voting Edwards next March, to better leverage his power as a pseudo superdelegate.
I will pick a candidate by then, and it may well be Obama and the more liberal wing of the party, to which he is aligned.
We get along just fine.

I will respect you no matter your decision. Always.

3. My boss and I were just talking about this.
We agree that Obama and Hillary are about the same on policies and issues. Sigh. Both far more conservative than we would like. We both wanted Edwards.

But, now we have to choose between Obama and Hillary. And they're about the same, except that one is relatively unknown - we don't really know much about Obama, cause he doesn't have much of a track record. We know what Hillary is about, and it's not all good, but it's not bad either, most of it, and she's tough.

So do we vote for the devil we know or the devil we don't know? I never bet on a straight. I'll vote for the tough devil I know.

I live in the south. The sad truth is that a lot of folks aren't going to vote for a woman or a black man. Period. So I'm glad that both Obama and Hillary are running, but I don't for one minute believe that one of them is a shoo-in to the White House while the other is unelectable.

Hillary Clinton has decades of experience on the front lines. She can swing the Republicans by the tail. I want to see her have that chance.

It is a testament to our top two candidates that it is so difficult. Either of them will do a great job for America. I do believe that. Edwards was the only one I gave money to in the beginning. But, we all know how that worked out. I am happy for you and proud of you that you gave it so much thought and went ahead and voted. Sometimes it just is not so clear and we just go for it. I did this once before too in an election where I was very conflicted. We lived in Fl and Nader and Gore were on the ticket. My husband and I were convinced that Gore would take Fl and we wanted a 3rd party candidate to get the vote so that a viable 3rd party might appear in the US.

I know, I know...crazy talk.

We both went into the booths to vote for Nader....and both emerged having voted for Gore (damn those hanging chads and all....)

68. Big pat on the back....
You know I love you and your enthusiasm, Kerry2008, from the days when we both were hoping Wes Clark would jump in the race.

I love that you voted for Hillary and I love the way you reasoned it out....Yes, she is talking about the issues and in very big detail. That SHOULD mean a lot to voters but here you had folks laughing at her last night for daring to spend 90 minutes discussing issues and rahter making inspiring speeches.

Even if you'd voted for Obama, I'd still applaud you for your enthusiasm and the way you've taken it upon yourself to get involved and get educated on the race. We do need young people to do that so badly. But I can't deny it puts a way big smile on my face to read that you marked the ballot for Senator Clinton. :)

Oh, and your description of your indecision as you went to mark the ballot reminded me someone voting in tribal council on Survivor. :)

First, I had the chance in my state to vote already, and I voted for Edwards.

After John suspended, and a couple days grieving, I felt it was time to move on.

Well, I then got behind Obama and I can really feel a sweep, and if your in this sweep, you will be swept away! Then the Kennedy's came out and talk about history in the making. I think Obama will look at this as the biggest boost yet.

Whites are voting for Obama. It's a little different for a black person because of the obvious fact of having a black president for the very first time.

I sway in the breeze a bit myself. I think Obama may have an easier time beating McCain, but I also believe (and no one here may agree with me) that Clinton is actually more progressive than Obama. I also wanted Edwards. Well actually I like Gravel but he has no prayer.

And every time I start to feel a little excitement about Obama I go to his web site and see the anti-Clinton venom over there and I feel that I can't stand to be one of that group of supporters.

Well, I liked your post but alas I think I am more undecided now than I was even this morning.

So as an older, but not geriatric :), person, I also thank you for caring enough about your country to make a choice between difficult alternatives, in difficult times.

(I don't buy the argument that one is more electable than the other. By the time the MSM gets done dragging them through the mud, no one will recognize either of them any more. President McCain is a *very* strong possibility here.)
