It is not surprising that Huckabee is Romney's nightmare & McCain's dream...
As long as Huckleberry remains in the race, he will continue to draw that portion of the conservative fundamentalists vote which Romney must capture to upend McCain.

When I heard that Romney had bought hardly any ads in the Super Tuesday States that was quite a shock given he was already in for $40 Mil Plus out of his own pocket.

The GOP is uniting around McCain and telling the conservative fundamentalists to take a hike. Amazing.

1. True. And either way, I'm bunking elsewhere.
I wonder if Romney knew he couldn't really get a foothold on Feb. 5th. It might explain why he stopped buying so many ads.

And it's going to be interesting to see how the Far Right responds to McCain's name in every headline from coast-to-coast tomorrow. They've never much liked the man.

3. The 'Losing Strategy' for Romney is this.... and it is a loser, unless something changes....
Romney realizes that as long as Huckleberry is in the race, Romney will not win in the South. And even if Huckleberry dropped out it would be only a small percentage, but nonetheless critical block.

The Romney strategy is to hang his hopes on the Western States for a virtual sweep, AND hope that McCain suffers a disaster of come kind before the nomination is decided.

At this point the numbers all break against Romney. Truly ironic given the role that conservative rightwing fundamentalists have played within the Repub Party in the past.

7. Agree -- Mitt's numbers just aren't there. He's dumped some
considerable dough into the race and it's rapidly turning to dust right before his eyes.

2. Romney never had a chance to win a single Southern state.
Conservative protestants think he belongs to a cult. A few might vote for Romney if there's no Huckabee in the race but a majority still wouldn't.

4. BHJ, I think we just saw the official nod and wink today in WV.
Blech. What an awful thing to be right about.

I think today, McCain set Huck up to be a "winnuh!" so that Romney is left saying, "I coulda been a contenduh."

Blech.

This is going to be a tough fight. Luckily the oppo research file on McCain and Huckabee both is deep, deep, deep, deep, deep.

:toast:

Thank Heaven for small favors, though I'm still crying tears in my beers over John.

5. What do YOU think about WV Repubs? I only have guesses...
Huckleberry was going to get a set number of votes rain or shine, and the McCain Repubs were smart enough to know that the second best outcome there was Romney losing to Huckleberry instead of McCain.

I really think at this point it will be close IF Huckleberry gets out, and it appears that Huckleberry has no intention of getting out before he does well in the South.

IMHO McCain is going to have to suffer a serious mishap not to take the Repub Nomination.

What do you think?

Is WV similar to TN, OK, Missouri?

P.S. I'd be happy to elaborate, but that's about the size of it.
