Californians: How long do you have to drive to vote?
Dan Abrams just said on MSNBC that some Californians have to drive 2 hours to vote. I don't get it. I know that many people in Californians have long commutes to work, but why can't they vote near their homes?
5. When I lived in the mountains we did not have a polling place. Everyone mailed in their ballots.
I don't see how anyone would have to drive 2 hours to vote. That might mean their commute from work to home is two hours and after that they vote. The story doesn't sound right to me.
9. When I lived in CA it was about 1/4 mile down the road.
My mother and sister both have to go about 1 mile. (3-4 minutes away) My Grandfather walks 3 houses down and votes in a garage & my Grandmother (From the other side) votes at a school 2 blocks away
I heard that too, and don't know what he was talking about
It shouldn't be an issue if one has planned ahead as we can always choose to vote by mail. I would think anyone who has this problem would have declared themselves as an absentee voter (mail) by now.
13. okay, that all makes sense. He must have meant that they vote before or after they drive 2 hours
on their way to and from work. Silly thing to say, but I guess if I had to attempt to make conversation with a parade of other talking heads all day, I'd say more silly stuff.
15. There are lots of two-hour commutes here in the golden state
They were probably trying to make a point that many people vote late. The polls are open here until 8:00 p.m (11:00 p.m. East Coast). With heavy turnout and going to paper ballots due to our wonderful new SOS who de-certified the evil machines, it could mean votes are not counted until tomorrow.
