9. McCain will be a gonner in the GE, he needs Huckabee, he can't win w/o a buffer.
McCain is circa 1980's and imo people do not want to go back.

they will not vote.

RW radio is RABID against him and will continue to be so.

No voter turnout.

They won't cast.

12. I wish you were right about this.
Expect a steady drumbeat of "Well, we better support McCain this time instead of face a Democratic president and what they heck he's like 73, so maybe he'll die and VP X will be president soon enough" pronouncements starting in mid September.

They will fall in line faster than a reveille bugle call at a Marine boot camp.

19. Funny, there's another GDP thread floating around saying we can't possibly defeat McCain!
I don't know who to believe...

I think you're spot on. Conservatives HATE McCain! He will spend the general election trying to sell war to a war-weary customer, and it won't fly.

I'm looking forward to watching McCain get the smackdown...whether it's in the primaries or in the GE!

21. I really hope you're right, matcom.
My own mother is voting for McCain b/c he's pro-life and she's a staunch Catholic. :eyes: Let's just say it's made for some very awkward conversations. She's "pro-life", but voting for the candidate who is willing to be in Iraq for 100 yrs?!? The hypocricy is mind-boggling.

This is what I'm dealing with in my own immediate family, so I'm a bit worried that McCain could still manage to put up a decent battle. :scared:

I'm hoping with all my might that enough Americans will vote for CHANGE and disregard McCain, who would basically be a continuation of BushCo's policies.

24. OOPS, I hate to break it to your mom but, McCain is an Episcopalian
at least according to a very very old C-SPAN U.S. Congressional Directory, however, I just checked wiki and they had him as a Baptist:eyes:

22. You are being foolish if you think beating McCain will be easy,
Especially if Hillary winds up getting the Democratic nod. If Hillary is in the race, the 'Pugs and conservatives will rally around McCain and come out in large numbers, they hate Hillary that much. Also, McCain will be able to snag a pretty good number of independents, and the anti-war left will abandon Hillary in droves.

Nope, not a cakewalk at all.
