I have to be at work again at 5 am. It's been a very long day, between voting and work and taking my daughter to see the Hannah Montana movie.

Is it going to be not close and she's going to be declared the winner during her speech? Or did she tank in California and she's calling it a night?

4423298, Hillary won the Latino vote in California by FORTY
Posted by jackson_dem on Tue Feb-05-08 10:24 PM

The white Democratic vote was split but Obama won white indies by 37 (11% of the vote). Latino Democrats accounted for 25% of voters and Hillary won 70-30. Latino indies accounted for another 3% but there weren't enough for us to have any exit poll data. Black Democrats were only 5% of voters since the black population is small in CA. He won that vote 77-19-5 but it isn't enough to come anywhere near offsetting the larger Latino vote. If Obama loses it will be due to this poor showing with Latinos.

It should be made clear Obama can win but he has an uphill climb because of this.

I must say a smile came across my face as I typed 5. Edwards struggled with black voters from the beginning this time but in California he did as well with blacks and he did with whites. If only...

77. We did
I don't know what the percentages are but if they're close then the delegates are split. She won the State but the delegates still get split per Democratic rules.

more substantive and positive. I didn't hear one real slap at Obama. He is the divisive candidate in this race. After he bashes Hillary, he finally get around to attacking the Republicans.

4424532, Clinton looks past Obama and faults Bush

Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK -- Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton celebrated her collection of Super Tuesday wins and looked past Democratic rival Barack Obama to take a swipe at President Bush and his Republican allies.

"You know tonight we are hearing the voices of people across America, people of all ages, of all colors, all faiths and all walks of life," she told supporters on Tuesday.

The New York senator is seeking to become the first woman president, while Obama would become the first black president.

Clinton did not direct any criticism toward the Illinois senator who is now her only remaining Democratic rival, instead focusing most of her attention on President Bush and his Republican allies.

"After seven years of a president who listens only to the special interests, you're ready for a president who brings your voice, your values and your dreams to your White House," she said. "And tonight, in record numbers, you voted not just to make history but to remake America," she said.

99. just got back from caucus (Colorado)
Turnout was huge, probably 4 or 5 times larger than 2004.

Obama won my precinct 54 - 33. Not unexpected. Eleven precincts were voting, everyone milling about the hallways beforehand. Of the people that were wearing an identifier (button, t-shirt, etc) I'd would say that easily 75% of Obama's supporters were under the age of 30. Same phenom, though not as pronounced when actual vote in precinct started. The Clinton voters were a far more diverse group age and race wise. Easily half of Obama's support at my actual precinct vote was under 30. Only one Latino out of the 54. Very few grey heads. Clearly Obama is appealing to a lot of new and young voters. That's the good part. Bad part - too narrow a coalition to win a GE, IMHO.

One of the speeches from an Obama supporter was a regurgitation of the points we hear on DU every day. Social security needs to be fixed. That's a RW talking point - that pissed me off. Lots of promises about what Obama would do if elected - precious little mention of how he would do it. The 2nd Obama speaker was much better.

The Clinton speaker had a prepared speech from HRC. Two votes switched to Hillary from the initial straw poll to the actual count.

---------------------

I found it interesting that a lot of Obama's victories tonight came in caucuses, while Hillary's (outside of NJ) came in primaries. Primaries are, IMO, a much better way to gage party support. Caucuses just measure what the activists want. Colorado is notorious for having different results in our caucuses (which puts the names on the ballot) and our primaries. Are other states the same? I know a lot of people who were not able to go to the caucus tonight - including several Obama supporters, because they couldn't get a baby sitter. Caucuses are not necessarily an accurate reflection of what a state's voters want. A lot of people can't participate.

I think it favors Hillary that most of her wins were primaries, while a lot of Obama's were caucuses. I think the DNC is going to be looking inside these numbers, and drawing some of the same conclusions I have. The Obama coalition is too one dimensional to win a national election. I expect there's going to be a lot of pressure on Richardson and Edwards to endorse Hillary.
