Someone explain Hillary's Oklahoma landslide to me ...
a lot of the states results I look at and think "ok, that makes sense" but I'm having a real hard time understanding what it is about Oklahoma that allowed Hillary to get a landslide victory there.

1. It's the only state Wes Clark won
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 02:13 AM by Kurt_and_Hunter
probably mostly white with a few latino voters, overall conservative and probably a lot of veterans.

I think it's an atypical mix in a Dem primary. I doubt Dems will ever win OK.

4. Arkansas infrastructure spillover
Sort of like how Obama is expected to do well in Indiana.

6. Edwards and Arkansas
Edwards was her main challenger there and with him out the state was a lock for her. It borders Arkansas and that helps. Hillary won AR and TN and OK which both border Arkansas. It isn't coincidental that the only state Clark won happened to be next door to Arkansas.

7. Native Americans?
Wilma Mankiller endorsed Hillary, maybe that was it. I don't get it either. Well, it's right next to Arkansas too so maybe there's some kind of carry-over, like Tennessee.

11. It's a head scratcher. Bordering state to AR maybe with much
of the population base on the east side near AR?

13. As an Oklahoma Dem
I can say that the Clinton campaign put forth an effort to get votes here - and to get out the vote. I was contacted at least 6 or 7 times and I was also polled.

I didn't hear a thing out of the Obama camp. Not even a robo call. But I did see a few Obama tv ads. That said, there were quite a few more Huckabee tv ads than Obama ads.

Edwards was very popular here. Many of his supporters here do not really care for either Hillary or Obama. Or aso they say. I tend to think they broke toward Hillary. I've heard other Dems here make comments that suggest there is a perception that Obama is a bit arrogant and lacking in both substance and experience. There wasn't much of an effort out of the Obama camp to refute that perception. Mind you I am ***NOT*** saying that is true - just saying the perception was not challenged.

14. It's a southern state without black voters.
That's the simplest explanation I can make. They are low income, blue collar, and with relatively modest education.
