Someone mentioned "generational shifts"...
Whether someone is a woman or multi-racial - neither of those on their own are valid reasons for voting for or against someone.

I did vote for Obama, but was very torn about the choice until the last minute, and I'm still not sure I made the right choice.

The attacks on Hillary seem based entirely on superficial criteria.

Then again, the attacks on Obama's name and past seem deceptive and sleazy.

Why are people here engaging in this? Isn't it enough that the GOP will be doing it after the convention?

Colin Powell is multi-culti. So is Kindasleeezzzy Rice. Big whoop.

Ann Coulter is a woman, so is Katherine Harris. Big whoop.

If there's going to be a generational shift, my hope is that people will vote for the best overall candidate, without considering race or gender, PERIOD.

1. The Commentariat like to make grand pronouncements
And the Obama campaign is playing to this. But it opens the door to megalomania, which is the kiss of death to an activist. The most atrocious example is Ira Eichorn, but plenty of activists have been ruined by a messiah complex. It would be sad indeed if Obama stepped into that sinkhole.

But the press is eager -- desperate -- for Something Big. The problem is that those tectonic shifts are only visible in retrospect. And if they try to make Barack Obama into their new messiah, it will probably blow up in their faces, though Obama will be the only one hurt by it.
