The Real Story: Dem Turnout 2:1 over GOP
Look at Missouri -- either of our candidates would have beaten all 3 of the GOPers combined. As an undecided dem, that gives me the best hope fro November (instead of this board).

That is all.

4. In Colorado...
My precinct caucus in 2004 drew 12-14 people.

Last night, over ten times as many.

Same story, I believe, everywhere in the state.

Probably in the nation.

16. We saw a similar jump in our CO caucus
In 2004, there were 6 people in the elementary school lunchroom, for 6 precincts. This year there were an estimated 400 people squeezed in.

23. At the Broomfield, Colorado caucus
my son reported, that for 26 or 28 precincts the last time they had about 100 show, and last night they had like 1500. The line was really long - around the high school! That's a x15 factor. Wow!

5. You rock!!
That is totally the BIG story.

You have to wonder why the media looked at those numbers ALL NIGHT and said
absolutely nothing about this stunning reality.

I mean, it's frickin crazy-amazing! :toast:

In most of those states, our Democratic winner (whether it was Obama Clinton) won
more votes than all of the Republican candidates COMBINED.

Hell yeah!!!!!!!!!! :)

This is so extraordinary. It's unprecedented. It's unparalleled. It's unmatched.
It's any other kick-ass adjective that you can find in Roget's.

This translates into a mind-blowing blowout for the Dems in November. We could have
a ping-pong ball wearing a wig--for our candidate--and trounce the Republicans.

Game on, Democrats!!! :woohoo: :toast: :bounce:

9. I like your suggestion. If we come to a locked convention,
we might do worse than a ping-pong ball wearing a wig.

6. McCain's wins actually spell even more doom for the GOP.
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 09:00 AM by Atman
He only won in Blue states where the R's will get their asses kicked anyway.

On a side note, can Romney still lay claim to being a good businessman? I mean, he's sunk 100 million bucks into a business venture that netted him two wins. Doesn't sound like "success" to me! Huckleberry, otoh, spent $7,000,000 of other people's money, and look where he's at. Just sayin. It's time for Willard to STFU and go back to lying and selling out his country in the private sector.

15. You're an Iowan?
I've been arguing with a fellow Iowan?

Who knew? :)

Wasn't our turnout amazing? Our caucus site was pure mayhem. It was so exciting.
I presume you had a great caucus.

The media barely reported on Iowa's 100 percent increase in turnout, from 2004--and
2004 was a record year.

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/dates/#20080205

oh man fuck the Republicans. That's one party where the people hate their own candidates. On the Dem side you only see that on DU (I still have faith in us though!). This is a clear victory for the Democratic party. We have more energized, more passionate voters. We will win in November, if we put our minds to it.

11. The numbers are great. I'm just concerned that, come the GE, the folks
won't be there if the nominee isn't "their" candidate. I don't know if the huge turnouts are because Dems are bound and determined to take back the WH, or if the numbers are so huge because of the individual candidates. I'm hoping this is excitement for the idea of taking back the country, and not just excitement over an individual, whether it's Clinton or Obama.

20. Actually, the exact opposite. Around here, the vast majority of people
have said they will vote for whomever the Democratic candidate is. I respect and believe that opinion. It's on the street and knowing the psychology of people that makes me concerned. First time voters are excited and feel like they matter at this point. When the person they put their energy and enthusiasm into isn't the eventual candidate, it would not be unexpected for those people to decide that their vote doesn't matter anyway, etc.

Like I said, I may be too negative about the general populace, but it is still a concern to me. I hope I'm wrong.

24. Agreed. And even on DU, most folks are just blowing smoke
at an emotional moment.

Remember all those Deaniacs who would NEVER vote for Kerry in '04? They not only voted for him, they donated time and money to him.

It will be okay.

17. Anecdotal: I voted early, but Mr. B's change of addy wasn't on record and we
went to our old precinct to vote.

I've been through two prez primaries there and never had to wait long. When I was there every time, I noticed the pollworkers calling "Dem" or Repub" for ballot offerings as people checked in.

Always the Repubs slightly ahead of Dems. Last night, I had to stifle a laugh. After about 7 "Dem"s in a row, a gnetleman approached and his ballot was "Rep." He looked VISIBLY embarrassed.

Just saying... :hi:

21. I don't know what you are smoking the numbers aren't 2:1
Total repub turnout in Mo...585,000 Top three =550,000

Total Dem turnout...~820,000 HRC and BHO split about even at 400K.

So yes, either would beat the top two repubs, not all combined.

Data from Washington Post...

Georgia was close, with D slightly greater than sum R. The only state where I saw R>D was Utah (natch).

So far things are looking up, but let's not get too full of confidence. As noted elsewhere the General will be much tighter if some folks who vote D this time don't get their "preferred" candidate and sit it out. Gotta stick together after the primary fight.

22. GA is a deep red state with two Republican senators, a Republican governor
Republican state houses, and I think the congressional delegation is more R's than D's. The fact that more Democrats came out for the GA primary is nothing short of amazing.

The fact that Obama won 43% of the white vote in GA is a symbol for hope for this country.
