A Sincere Question To All The Die Hard Obama Fans:
I'm of firm belief that Hillary will undoubtedly be the nominee. Having that said, and then rhetorically speaking, if that is to be the case and she ends up picking Obama to be her VP, will you still be able to feel at least some level of the excitement you feel now, and help propel our party to a historical victory in November?

I only ask because I know how passionate the Obama supporters are, but also how passionate they can be at times against Hillary. But if they end up being a team, will that wipe away some of the bitter feelings from his having not been nominated, enabling you to continue supporting the now combined campaign with the same fervor?

I'm just curious what your feelings might be if such things were to occur.

5. How Bout You Answer The Question? Stuck In One Gear? Jesus. Open Your Mind A Little.
It's a rhetorical question. How bout ya answer the fucking thing instead of telling me how I should or shouldn't feel about who will win.

Nowhere did I tell YOU what you should believe as to who will win, so there's no need for you to have to tell me. But it is a genuine question as to how you would react in such a scenario. So do you have the ability to answer it?

Thanks. :hi:

76. when will HIllary supporters research DLC + Hillary Clinton?
then most of these threads wouldn't be necessary.

Hillary is republican lite, which is worse in a way than republican, because the DLC
morphs the democratic agenda way over to the right, until it isnt' democratic at all.

2. I will be disappointed...
A clinton administration will be years of trench warfare and Obama as VP would have to be on the attack and would get sullied by it.

Obama represents a promise for change in tone that would evaporate if he became Hillary's bulldog.

112. Anyone who thinks that Obama will remain above the fray if he is
the candidate is just delusional. It doesn't matter who the Democratic candidate is - they are going to be smeared with every lie the repugs can find someone to support and put out campaign ads for the truly stupid to glom onto. Remember Max Cleland? Remember John Kerry? Neither one of those two were running under the Clinton track record yet they both got completely and totally smeared by the repug slime machine.

I just wish the people who want to use the argument that Clinton shouldn't be the candidate because of "baggage" from the Big Dog's administration would just put that one to rest. She is going to be attacked with the most unholy jihad the Karl Roves of the the world can dream up... but so will Obama. It isn't the name Clinton they hate, it is the D after her name that causes them to go apoplectic. Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton is a win-win for all of us.

Just keep your eye on the prize - THE SUPREME COURT - if this nation is to survive.

3. Nobody will be able to say that
The excitement? No. No way. It will be a completely transformed affective landscape.

I'll vote for Hillary, of course, but I probably won't work for her campaign, largely because that would mean having to be in the same room with the utter douchebaggery evinced by so many of her supporters.

But in terms of feeling? No way is it going to be the same. It will be a complete letdown.

6. I disagree - last night WAS the highest point for Hillary - she needed a huge sweep
going into the next rounds. Obama drawing even and going into his strong states with way more money is meaningful.

Obama will NOT put Hillary on the ticket. And many Dem candidates in competitive states don't want her on the ticket.

30. The question was, essentially, ASSUMING that HRC is the nominee, how do you feel about ...
and people naturally respond by questioning the posited assumption.

As for an answer to the question, I would be more excited about Obama than other choices, but think it more likely HRC would pick Richardson, if she is given the nomination; at this point, the most likely way she'd get nominated IS by being GIVEN the nomination.

9. No...
I'd know he's just a cosmetic perfume on a Turd of a candidacy. I'd know that as soon as she's in power, he'd be irrelevant as VP, and she'd turn to the DLC establishment in the party that got her the nomination, who would move to the Center and not try to really change anything. I'd also know that the Dem ticket would have lost the appeal of Independents inspired by obama, and I'd be sure that the Republican candidacy would get more votes on an anti-Hillary psychology drive.

I'd be sad that we didn't go the other way (Obama / CLinton). THAT ticket would assure Independent voters, some Republican voters, a unified Dem ticket (I don't see many CLintonites refusing to support Obama), and no anti-Hillary rallying cry.

I am not sure Obama wants to be wagged by the Clinton co-presidency, which will not happen as I suspect we might have a last minute third party to split the independent vote and tip it to the Republicans who will run the two front runners, and who will do much better against HRC than many suspect.

Then go and look at the latest delegate numbers, and the calendar of upcoming primaries and caucuses.

Then factor in Obama's momentum and fundraising.

I'm perfectly entitled to be convinced of that, and if you don't like it then too bad so sad. But that's not the point of the thread. The point of the thread is to ask the question that if that is to be the case, and she picked Obama as her VP, how would you feel about the combined ticket?

My god, the closed mindedness and ability to think only 1 level deep is staggering.

The hope and aspirations of an Obama candidacy will die with it.

Which has prompted lots of that bitterness you speak of.

If she gets the nom, I'll be deeply disappointed - but she will get my vote. I am a Democrat after all.

Though I still can't fathom how Hillary supporters think a candidate with such high negatives (across all parties) can win?!

That being said, I am confident that Obama will continue his race, his pace, and eventually pass Hillary in the delegate count. Just maybe, by next Tuesday.

And you OPERATIONMINDCRIME, what will be your feelings IF Obama wins?

...the whole premise of this thread is that Hillary is the "inevitable" candidate.

The premise is flawed.

But the question DOES indicate that even Clinton supporters are worried that they couldn't hold Obama supporters if she's the nominee, even as they know that he would hold them in the GE.

The ones that vote will likely vote for Hillary... but they won't work hard for her.

A large percentage of the Obama vote is the anti-everything-about-Washington vote.... if Clinton wins, then that sentiment has lost.

It will be a mostly Clinton vote... but a listless one.

That said.... The rest of this month is going to turn this race Obama's way.... and your "firm belief" will be found to be wrong.

26. I will back whoever the nominee is, but NO - it won't be with as much enthusiasm..
I actually hope that Obama doesn't agree to be her VP. I think there is going to be a lot of decisions, and possibly scandals in a Clinton administration (similar to the first one). I don't want Obama to be part of that. I want him to be able to stand on his own two feet and remain clean from any of that so he can go after the the race and win in 2012 or 2016.

If he were to agree to be on the ticket, I would support and vote (just like I will if he's not) - but it will be with a lot less enthusiasm. I have several republican & independent friends that I have either already swung on to the Obama wagon, or have potential to do if McCain is the nominee. I wouldn't even bother asking them to vote for Clinton, it would be a waste of breath.

Obama = new energy in my circle.. Clinton does not.

And, I DO think he has a very good shot at being the front runner! In that case, I would also hope he wouldn't ask Hillary to be VP. John Edwards would be great.

if she is the nominee but honestly, no the excitement won't be there. The VP doesn't set the tone, doesn't get the much control of the 'Big Picture' (that would be especially true in a Clinton White house)
In fact if Clinton ends up winning, I think I'd be less enthused if Obama was on the bottom of the ticket than if weren't on the ticket at all.

I'm voting for the Democratic ticket no matter what but voting for Clinton will feel like settling.

42. For me
Two candidates I supported will have lost - Edwards and Obama - making me the kiss of death for any candidate.

I will almost certainly vote for Hillary if she is the nominee, but I'd be disappointed. I'm not sure how much I'd work for her or contribute to her campaign. Bill Clinton, the attitude of some of her supporters here and other issues have poisoned the well. I really have Clinton fatigue.

43. Enthusiasm for that ticket, no
I would, of course, vote for whatever the ticket turns out to be. It's not a matter of Obama not being nominated, should that turn out to be the case; it's that I don't want Clinton as the nominee, regardless. I didn't start out this way, but it's where I've arrived.

Not because I am an Obama supporter. But Clinton is the absolute worst candidate of all of them. There were eight candidates to choose from, the best being Kucinich, the worst being Clinton. Why must the worst one be the winner? Can't people at least go for second or third worst for once?

I hear it from young people, old people, people I eavesdrop on riding the bus ;)...

This week I heard it from a graphic designer living in Minneapolis and a cab driver from Nigeria. They really like the idea of both names on the ticket. A realtor I know is more sanguine - she just figures it'll happen because it's our best chance.

52. I don't think he'd do it
Bill Clinton will be Hillary's de facto VP and whomever actually fills that position will be little more than a figurehead. I don't think he'll feel that's the best use of his time or talent. I also think that if Hillary does end up being the nominee it'll be through manipulation of the FL/MI delegates or the super delegates and the bitterness will be fairly intense. No, I don't think he'll do it. And she'd pick someone more politically in tune with her such as Bayh or Richardson.

But - in your miracle scenario, I'm reserving my right to be enthusiastic about the ticket based on how she won the nomination. If it's at all underhanded then no, putting Barack on the ticket won't change at all how I feel about her candidacy.

55. This thread proves many Obama supporters shortsighted
Ok, first off I am a pretty objective observer on this contest. With that said....

Reading these comments from Obama supporters, that they wouldn't want him as Clinton's VP or that he wouldn't take it if offered....lol.

This all or nothing, now or never mindset ain't how it works in real politics. If Obama really wants to be President but can't win this primary, there is hardly a stronger strategy than having served as VP for 8 years. This would give him all the experience he needs and totally wipe out that criticism of him. He's very young so, as opposed to an older candidate in that slot, it would be excellent timing for him too.

You all need to rise above the moment and think further into the future than next week.

56. Yes, and here is why...
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 10:17 AM by ALiberalSailor
...because first of all, after 8 years of the crap we've had to endure, I think it speaks volumes about our country that the likely next president will be either a woman or a black male. I actually get goosebumps just thinking about it because, as much as I enjoy posting on DU, I get tired of all the people who say "America is screwed", or "Bush is killing America." America is as much a philosophy as it is a country, and if one person can destroy that in 8 years, why the hell have I spent the last 16 years of my life in the military serving something so fragile and weak? I think we're doing in this election what we did not do after 9/11- come back bigger, better, and stronger. Obama is my guy, but I would be proud to cast a vote for either. Besides, if Obama is the VP, that pretty much guarantees 16 years of a democratic white house. And I plan to back that up with a contribution of as much as my paltry military salary will allow. By the way OMC, and this is on a personal note, it's good to see you around here.

65. I honestly feel Clinton would be bad for the country
so no, I wouldn't support a Hillary Clinton ticket no matter who the VP was. Fact is she's too polarizing, with her we KNOW there's no chance of the country coming together at all. Just 4 or 8 more years of the same "us (dem) vs. them (rep)". That's NOT what I want. I was originally for Edwards, and have since moved behind Obama. Is it a sure thing that Obama will bring the country together? No. Is there a chance? Yes. What this country needs more than ever is to be brought together, since there's 0% chance of that happening with Hillary and at least .1% chance of it happening with Barack; I support Barack.

If Clinton is at the top of the ticket, I'll abstain from voting or vote republican. Because I'd rather see a democratic loss in 08 to set up a win in 2012 than 4 years of Bush Politics just mirrored.

118. How Do The Republicans Feel About Being "Brought Together" If They Are Required To Relinquish Power
Control and $$$$$$$$$$$$ To Do So?

ANSWER... They Ain't For it.... So You're going to find out THE HARD WAY just WHAT John Edwards was talking about when he spoke about TAKING POWER FROM THEM... It's too bad soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many are so easilyyyyyyyyyyyyyy persuaded to follow a motivational speaker who speaks loudly but says sooooooooooooooooo little of substance just cause it makes them feel good to listen to him....

So the real candidate that actually represented a solid threat to the Corporations that run this country is cast aside by The Corporate Media while progressive leaders like Tim Carpenter of PDA talk about working to pull Obama and Hillary LEFT... when BOTH are bought and paid for by the same benefactors as the Republicans... Military Industrial Complex, Wall Street, Big insurance, Big Oil and Big Coal...

I hope that I will be in a position to still smile when this crap is all over with........?

105. I worry about this too
I spent the last few days with people working for Obama in NJ. Many were young people. They spoke of needing the release from the cynicism that they had towards politics. Obama provides that - the nastiness with which some of the Clinton victories were achieved are painful to some. The Clintons were the Democrats of their youth and this has hurt.

Now, this is a partisan and politicized segment. Many will come around and they are too political not to become involved. Others are people who described themselves as usually not political, but wanting a release from the ugliness of the political fights they have heard all their cognitive life. Some of them will possibly see HRC as not enough reason to vote, much less work.

This is subjective and does not involve many people - and could well be atypical.

I have been obsessed with politics since the 8th grade. I will grant you that a lot of my peers are complete idiots when it comes to politics, but I think that's getting better, in part because of Obama's influence on the race.

That said, I am not an Obama supporter. I am only pulling for him at this point because he's Not Clinton. If it's between Clinton and Obama for the nomination, I want Obama because he actually stands a chance of earning my vote, whereas I will never cast a vote for a ticket with Clinton on it. I WANT to vote Dem this November, but at this point I am down to voting against whatever idiot the Republicans run, not FOR the Democrat. I tried this once before and it blew up in my face, and I'm sick of it, but I'm willing to give it one more shot this time around, but only if it's not a Clinton. My willingness to vote against rather than for only extends so far.

If Clinton put Obama on her team, she would be using him to get elected, to appease the black voters and other Obama supporters.
After the election, he would have less influence in her administration than Bill Clinton

This is not enough for Obama and not enough for his supporters. He would get little out of being her VP and would
have sold out his principles and his supporters.

Personally, I would not support Hillary Clinton for president even if Barack Obama were her running mate.

And i would be very disappointed in Obama for accepting her offer.
