Student leader apologizes for e-mail with Obama rumor

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The University of Kentucky's student government association president has apologized for sending an e-mail that falsely accuses Illinois Sen. and presidential hopeful Barack Obama of being a radical Muslim.

Obama is a Christian but a rumor circulating on the Internet claims he is part of a Muslim plot to destroy America by infiltrating the presidency.

Nick Phelps says he forwarded the e-mail to seven fellow student government members to spark discussion. But the e-mail spread and led some students to call for Phelps's resignation.

Phelps now says forwarding the e-mail was a mistake. He also has apologized in the student newspaper.

with enough brains to get into a university? But, if that student was stupid enough to send that crap to others maybe it's possible. How can anyone even remotely believe Obama is a radical muslim.

sorry that he got caught and got some bad press from it. Twits like that only admit they made a mistake when it causes them grief.

He's probably happy he did some damage which any apology he might make will not undo.
