Stop corporate interests from buying a seat in Congress

Corporate interests in Cleveland are spending huge amounts of money on television and elsewhere to make sure that Dennis Kucinich is not re-elected to the U.S. Congress.

If you want to make sure that they don't get away with buying an election and buying a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives,
please consider making a contribution today so Dennis can buy the advertising time he needs to continue being the voice of truth, courage, and integrity.

Thank you,
Kucinich for Congress

Hi everyone, Dennis here.

One month from now is the Ohio primary and I'm running for re-election to the House of Representatives. I'm also being outspent 5 to 1. Corporate interests are converging on Cleveland in an effort to try to knock me out of Congress.

I need your help to make sure that there continues to remain in the United States Congress a voice of truth, a voice of courage, a voice of integrity.

I want to continue to serve in Congress to stand up for my constituents and their economic rights: the right to a job, to health care for all, to retirement security, for the education of their children.

I need your help in order to do that. These interests groups have enabled television ads to be run against me for 2 weeks running and I haven't had the resources to be able to go back on television and to respond to them. But with your contribution I'll be able to do that.

So please go to our website right now at kucinich.us and give us the resources that we need to beat back this corporate challenge.

I'm confident that with your help I'll be able to continue to be the voice in the United States Congress that you count on to be heard in times of crisis. We need to regain our country. We need to sweep aside the fear that has engulfed this country. We need to set back the greed that is undermining this country. I'm prepared to do that and I'm prepared to do that with your help.

Thank you.

1. One thing that makes me skeptical...
If "corporate money" was against Kucinich, wouldn't it all get behind ONE candidate. By creating an entire field of challengers, thus splitting the anti-Kucinich vote, doesn't that actually HELP Dennis?

I'd be more suspicious if only ONE challenger appeared with all the "corporate money".

Reality doesn't match the campaign "corporate conspiracy theory".

2. reality isn't always a strong suit of some of DK's arguments
I don't have any problem with DK getting re-elected. Its just that I wish that he (and his supporters) would run against his opponents, not against some made up conspiracy.

4. Multi-ponged attack makes sense.
Why risk one candidate and fail. Nail him on the percentages.

Doesn't seem like a stretch to me

7. How does splitting the anti-Kucinich vote 4 or 5 ways nail him on percentages?
It still seems like a stretch mathematically.

6. Kucinich becomes both drowned out and appears weak.
If you had five choices, how quickly would you decide? You might not even decide, if it's too much work.

Plus, he has to come up with equal time on the air to attempt to punch through the resulting smokescreen, and to counter their accusations.

Would you do well against four+ well-moneyed competitors?

I'd say that mostly, it makes him appear weak. And it must be very tiring. Perhaps they think that they can wear him out (those with resources do this sort of thing to their competitors).

11. Perhaps for the same reasons it was decided that the Presidential election is between two, sometimes
three parties. Usually two. I don't know why, they just made it that way. The process of elimination is something we prefer on a subconscious, visceral level?

I say that it makes him look weak, and it shouts him down. The know what they're doing. You must allow for that much. He can't keep up with four people spending all that money to take away from his attention.

9. There's a particular one who is receiving $2 million from some corporate pals.
(I just heard Elizabeth Kucinich on Air America).

They played an attack ad by this candidate and it was untruthful and ugly.

I got the impression this is the one who is the "corporate" candidate they're referring to.

Plus, corporations spread their money around, too.

There's more info at the site linked above.

12. If there is only one, why does the Kucinich site say...
"He has 5 challengers ALL with huge Corporate Money behind them"

Something isn't right. Either this is being made up by the Kucinich campaign, or there really is only one corporate candidate.

13. I'm just relaying what I heard Elizabeth Kucinich say, so don't take it verbatim.
She may have mentioned more than one being backed by corporate supporters, but they focused on this one guy whose ad they ran.

I can only guess that there are plenty of those types from different industries who would like to bid Dennis adieu, so it's not unreasonable to consider that each of his opponents is getting a kick of cash.

3. There are no "at large" members of Congress who represent the entire nation.
The constituents in DK's district have every right to expect that he will spend as much time representing their interests and their everyday and sometimes mundane needs as he does on the glamorous and news making national issues. Representing the ordinary people who elected them should be important to members of Congress also.

10. Have his constituents been happy with him thus far? I was under the impression
that he's been re-elected but I may be wrong (don't feel like looking it up).

I agree with your point, but we also need those who WILL fight for the big issues (e.g.impeachment, single payer healthcare) too. I would hate to lose his voice in Congress. And ultimately, if he's successful with the big issues his constituents -- and we all -- benefit.
