That's why they have to work without pay. It's a serious offense if they get caught funding the workers through the back door.

Let me be clear that there are probably many lobbyists who are skirting the law in this area, by working for some pittance while not drawing their regular salary at, say, the DC law firm they work for. But they'll get paid later from the firm and essentially make up for the lost revenues.

But the important thing is that most staffers are not lobbyists, but are worker bees who earn a paycheck and live paycheck to paycheck.
