NEW MEME - Being for Obama means you have joined a CULT. I Call bullshit!
Guess that means that self respecting folks should support a women running mostly on her husband's record while talking about less than a year working for the Children's Fund as thought she did it for 10 years of the 35 she continues to touts, and who voted for war and has yet to call it a mistake; who voted for some stupid Iran Resolution at the worst time; accepts more pac and lobbyist money than any other candidate, loves to saber rattle at APAIC, and who's hubby is knee deep in some shady status quo type of "qui pro quo"--

That's considered rational?

yeah...ok :eyes:

112. Jim Jones was a community organizer, too.
"Jones began his group in San Francisco and was once a respected community leader. He started programs to help the elderly and poor. His circle of friends once included leading politicians ...

Once the Rev. Jim Jones was a popular figure and something of a religious celebrity in San Francisco. He participated in fashionable charity events and perhaps most importantly could turn out the vote or do whatever else was necessary through the well-oiled machine composed largely of his church members.

Jones was not some self-proclaimed "prophet" or fringe religious leader. He was an ordained minister of the Disciples of Christ, a respected mainline denomination. At one point his congregation numbered 8,000. It was composed largely of poor African Americans.

Jones cast himself as a politically progressive and was embraced by liberal politicians such as U.S. Representatives Phillip and John Burton, Assemblyman Willie Brown and Mayor George Moscone."

too young to know about it. The similarity of the Jones Cult and the Obama Cult is UNCANNY.:scared: It all began from his community organizing and moved on from there. We all know how it ended.:( It was awful.

that's simply your interpretation.

There is no fucking difference.

John Edwards was "fighting" for you.

Obama says this is our chance to change politics of hate as usual.

Why is John Edwards worthy of adulation without it being called anything other than a Cult, and Obama supporters are called names?

What in the fuck is that about?

99. You're very quick to call bullshit....
probably because you're so familiar with it being so steeped in it.

Edwards supporters understood the cause and put it first. You and the other Obama supporters talk about changing the politics of hate and you act just like everybody else here. Obama acts like every other candidate doing what is to his political benefit.

Obama hasn't change politics at all, he just talks good. He's been every bit if not more negative towards the other candidates than any of them. He's distorted other candidate's positions. He's done every political thing that everyone else has. That's not change.

You did it here, and at other places.

Why would you feel so offended by people doing exactly what you did to others?

Remember: we were Clarkies together. I remember well how you operate. (Gotta say, though, you were nowhere near this offensive when you supported Clark.)

So, drop the drama. You can't impugn others for the very offense you have committed.

A meme is something that casts things in a particular light, and then is repeated over and over again.

Sen. Clinton is NOT running on her husband's record.

She's running on HER record.

When she talks about the success of the Clinton Administration, yes....she talks about what she did to make some of those things happen.

Do you even realize that as First Lady, she went to Beijing, stared down the Chinese in their own backyard, and said "Women's rights are human rights, and human rights are women's rights, once and for all."

Do you even realize that as First Lady, she spoke out very forcefully for the veterans returning from the first Gulf War, and worked hard to get Gulf War Syndrome recognized as a real illness.

Do you even realize she went all over the world, and in places like Africa, championed "microcredit" loans that helped people, especially women, get control of their destiny by allowing them to get microcredit loans to start their own businesses. One of the reasons she continues to be held in such high regard the world over, is because she wasn't just resting on her laurals...she was getting the job done.

And she has also taken responsiblity for their failures, such as the health care debacle.

But even more importantly is this point:

One of the the themes that Sen. Clinton constantly returns to, is doing what we know works. That when we know what works...we need to build on that. For example, when she talks about creating jobs in this country, she says we can do that. We know how to create jobs in this country, because we've done it before.

Hillary Clinton Urges Attention to Gulf War Ailments

By TODD S. PURDUM
Published: August 15, 1995
Hillary Rodham Clinton urged a Presidential commission today to leave no stone unturned in investigating why thousands of veterans of the Persian Gulf war returned with various illnesses, even as a panel of independent medical experts suggested that the Pentagon might have been too hasty in concluding that there was no evidence of a "gulf war syndrome."

"No issue is off-limits and every reasonable inquiry should be pursued," Mrs. Clinton told the first meeting of the President's Advisory Committee on Gulf War Veterans' Illnesses. President Clinton formed the commission to evaluate the undiagnosed illnesses that have afflicted many who served in the Persian Gulf during military operations in late 1990 and early 1991.

-snip-

Mrs. Clinton has taken an interest in the issue since she received complaints from veterans during her work on health care last year, and the commission invited her to speak.

Addressing the group today at the Capital Hilton here, she said, "Thousands of veterans who were healthy when they left for the gulf war are now ill." She added, "Based on the research to date, however, experts have concluded that there is not enough evidence to call this a syndrome."

HILLARY CLINTON, IN CHINA, DETAILS ABUSE OF WOMEN

By PATRICK E. TYLER
Published: September 6, 1995
Speaking more forcefully on human rights than any American dignitary has on Chinese soil, Hillary Rodham Clinton catalogued a devastating litany of abuse that has afflicted women around the world today and criticized China for seeking to limit free and open discussion of women's issues here.

"It is time for us to say here in Beijing, and the world to hear, that it is no longer acceptable to discuss women's rights as separate from human rights," Mrs. Clinton told the Fourth World Conference on Women assembled here.

"It is a violation of human rights when babies are denied food, or drowned, or suffocated, or their spines broken, simply because they are born girls," Mrs. Clinton said, or "when women and girls are sold into slavery or prostitution for human greed.

"It is a violation of human rights when women are doused with gasoline, set on fire and burned to death because their marriage dowries are deemed too small" she continued, or "when thousands of women are raped in their own communities and when thousands of women are subjected to rape as a tactic or prize of war."

USAID Announces $240 Million Microenterprise Initiative
(Hillary Clinton offers enthusiastic support)
By Berta Gomez, USIA Staff Writer, July 24, 1997

Washington. The United States is allocating $240 million over two years to make small, low-interest loans available to the world's poorest families, officials said July 24.

First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton joined lawmakers and administration officials at a Capitol Hill ceremony renewing the 1994 Microenterprise Development Initiative, through which the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) funds lending and training programs that help poor families start or expand small businesses.

"Microcredit is one of the strongest strategies we can employ to assist people to help themselves," the first lady said.

Recipient organizations have included the Jordanian Women's Development Society, Ugafode in Uganda, the Janashakthi Bank Society in Sri Lanka, Banco Solidario in Ecuador and the Rural Bankers' Association of the Philippines.

The renewed USAID program builds on more than 15 years of support for microenterprise as a tool for development. It also builds on the momentum of the first-ever Microcredit Summit in Washington this past February, where donor governments, multilateral banks and non-governmental organizations pledged to make microcredit services available to 100 million families worldwide by the year 2005. Those services now reach an estimated 8 to 10 million families.

"Microenterprise fosters progress at all levels," Hillary Clinton said in a statement. "By empowering people at the grassroots, it deepens the commitment of citizens to democracy. By providing credit to the poor, it allows ever more men and women to pull themselves out of poverty and enter the economic mainstream. By offering new opportunities to women, it moves us all closer to making real the dream of equality."

77. Making speeches is great! but she wasn't involved in National security
via having national security clearance or sitting in on meetings.

So why is she so "ready from day one"? Cause she spoke about human rights in front of a foreign audience?

Or because she worked for less than a year for the Children's Defense Fund?

That's 35 years of "experience" making her ready for day one?

87. Umm....excuse me, but she just wasn't giving great speeches. That would be YOUR candidate.
And of COURSE she wasn't in on national security meetings and didn't have a clearance. That would not have been appropriate. And as she has said, if she is elected, her husband will not have a clearance, and he will not be in on meetings. She said she doesn't think that would be appropriate.

However, she was still his closest adviser, and she knows how a White House works. She knows how to navigate through the system and get things done.

And it's not just her White House years that she has focused on.

From my own personal perspective, this is how Sen. Clinton has brought about change over 35 years:

- Working on children's issues as a member of the Children's Defense Fund

- Reforming education in Arkansas

- Holding the first White House Conference on Breast Cancer

- Listening to ill veterans, and working to get Gulf War Syndrome recognized as a very real and serious disease

- Promoting democracy by staring down the Chinese in their own backyard and saying "Women's rights are human rights, and human rights are women's rights, once and for all."

- Empowering people to take control of their destiny by going to different parts of the world and championing issues like "microcredit," which allows people to receive microcredit loans, which many use to start their own businesses

- Being a champion for the first-responders to Ground Zero, and being one of the first people to recognize the health issues they would face from the toxic air they breathed, and working tirelessly on their behalf

- Forcing the Pentagon to reverse course and helping sponsor legislation which tells the Pentagon no way will we allow you get try to get back the signing bonuses of injured troops

- Demanding a closed-door session with the Pentagon so that you can learn what, if anything, they are doing to prepare for withdrawal from Iraq

- Preventing George W. Bush from privatizing social security

89. have a "few" more....
Her first cause was children, fighting abuse, and chairing the Children's Defense Fund.

# During 1974 she was a member of the Nixon impeachment inquiry staff in Washington D.C., advising the House Committee on the Judiciary during the Watergate scandal. She helped research procedures of impeachment and the historical grounds and standards for impeachment.

# Hillary co-founded the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, a state-level alliance with the Children's Defense Fund, in 1977.

# In late 1977, President Jimmy Carter appointed her to the board of directors of the Legal Services Corporation.

# Bill Clinton appointed her chair of the Rural Health Advisory Committee where she successfully obtained federal funds to expand medical facilities in Arkansas' poorest areas without affecting doctors' fees.

# One of the most important initiatives of the entire Clinton governorship, she fought a prolonged but ultimately successful battle against the Arkansas Education Association to put mandatory teacher testing as well as state standards for curriculum and classroom size in place.

# She introduced Arkansas' Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youth in 1985, a program that helps parents work with their children in preschool preparedness and literacy.

# in 1997 she helped establish the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and the Adoption and Safe Families Act.

# As a Senator and after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Hillary worked with her colleagues to secure the funds New York needed to recover and rebuild.

# She fought to provide compensation to the families of the victims, grants for hard-hit small businesses, and health care for front line workers at Ground Zero.

# She is the first New Yorker ever to serve on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

# She has visited troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and in countless other locations, truly understanding the challenges facing our troops.

# Hillary passed legislation to track the health status of our troops so that conditions like Gulf War Syndrome would no longer be misdiagnosed.

# She is an original sponsor of legislation that expanded health benefits to members of the National Guard and Reserves and has been a strong critic of the Administration's handling of Iraq.

# She has introduced legislation to tie Congressional salary increases to an increase in the minimum wage.

# She has supported a variety of middle-class tax cuts, including marriage penalty relief, property tax relief, and reduction in the Alternative Minimum Tax, and supports fiscally responsible pay-as-you-go budget rules.

# She helped pass legislation that encouraged investment to create jobs in struggling communities through the Renewal Communities program.

# She authored legislation that has been enacted to improve quality and lower the cost of prescription drugs and to protect our food supply from bioterrorism.

# She sponsored legislation to increase America's commitment to fighting the global HIV/AIDS crisis.

# She has lead the fight for the expanded use of information technology in the health care system to decrease administrative costs, lower premiums, and reduce medical errors.

# Clinton has successfully worked to ensure the safety of prescription drugs for children, with legislation now included in the Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act.

# She has also proposed expanding access to child care.

# She has passed legislation that will bring more qualified teachers into classrooms and more outstanding principals to lead our schools.

# Hillary is one of the original cosponsors of the Prevention First Act to increase access to family planning.

# She fought with the Bush Administration and ensured that Plan B, an emergency contraceptive, will be available to millions of American women and will reduce the need for abortions.

# She introduced the Count Every Vote Act of 2005 to ensure better protection of votes and to ensure that every vote is counted.

"You shook his hand didn't you?" Happily the guy said "Yes." I then said, "give me some of that" and the guy shook my hand with the same hand he had just clasped with Barack's. A woman friend of mine who was standing next to me saw me shake hands with the guy. I turned to her and said "He just shook hands with Barack," to which she responded..."Hey, give it up." We then shook hands. She then turned to the person next to her and shook hands. This chain of hand shakes went on for about five or six more persons...

Following someone who doesn't care about you. Following someone who's just in it for themselves. Following someone who will lie, cheat and steal to get ahead. Following someone despite the fact that its against your own best interest to do so.

Sounds like a different group of people to me....

By the way, the observations of the cultish aspects of the Barack followers have been discussed amongst people who aren't in the least bit interested in politics as we are here on DU, but these everyday people do notice aberrant behavior when it occurs in large crowds and focused on one individual with a persona that is eerily suggestive of events we have witnessed unfolding before.

100. People bitch a lot on this website about "Letting the perfect be the enemy of the good"
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 11:05 PM by JVS
However, I have seen a poster today (who KICKS ASS!) who attacked Obama for being 'only slightly better' than Clinton. WTF kind of head up a horse's ass logic is that. We now have people who let the "Slightly worse be the enemy of the good" Why do they want the wheaties that have been pissed in more? My only conclusion has to be that they suffer from a case of gutless turd syndrome.

96. Call bullshit if you want
But it's a pervasive meme for a reason. If you'd take a objective look at it you might be able to understand. There's even a clergy-person here at DU who has attended Obama rallies and come away stating that they're like cult experiences. Just the way people are crying yet can't explain why, and have no idea what he stands for but they love him to no end. That's not a political event, that's a religious experience.

Read this for another take on it.

103. It isn't a pervasive meme....although Y'all are trying very hard.....
We've gone from attempting the POlitics of hate on the candidate, to the politics of hate onto the candidate's supporters.

You should be proud....NOT!

Lots of people are talking about this, not just on DU. There's a good reason for that.

It's obviously a pervasive meme. Do you think I've been sending secret messages to writers of newspapers in the UK?

I'm not that powerful.

And don't even try to pull that politics of hate crap with me, dear. You and your pals own it.

and seeing that Jim Obama Jones has no substance. He talks a good game though. Just like Jim Jones did.

all the derogatory names that people come up with when they want to tear somebody down. There is no place for discussion, because there is nothing they wish to discuss. Same kind of language you'd expect from a nasty old drunk.
