Matthews on Obama phenomenon: This is bigger than Kennedy. This is the New Testament
In an interview with the New York Observer published today, Chris Matthews had this to say,

“I’ve been following politics since I was about 5,” said Mr. Matthews. “I’ve never seen anything like this. This is bigger than Kennedy. comes along, and he seems to have the answers. This is the New Testament. This is surprising.”

1. No, it isn't. Hyperbolic, as usual.
When has Tweety ever been right about anything?

Obama doesn't answer any questions specifically, how can he have all the answers?

4. yeah Tweety -- auditioning for the coronation?
Or just to be a judge on American Idol?

When this fool starts spewing this complete and total bollocks, thinking Americans should be questioning WHO is writing his scripts.

7. That's what I like about Tweety:
his measured restraint and lack of hyperbole. :sarcasm: Excuse my vulgarity, but did he actually shoot his load or just have his hand down his pants? Good Lord, from Ed Murrow and Walter Cronkite to Tweety in just 50 years.

9. this kind of talk will do obama no favors, anyway
Seriously, can you imagine how well Christian voters will react to that equation? Not very, I'm guessing. And the hardliners will probably read it as a sign that Obama's the antichrist.

26. *cough* the Antichrist
"DANIEL 7:8 I was considering the (ten) horns (on the fourth beast), and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words ..."

We all know the Antichrist is nonsense, pure metaphor, but this scripture is amusing.

21. Are you serious?
Chris Matthews WAS a Democrat before being hired by General Electric's Jack Welch.
Since then, he's been making fun of Al Gore's ties and bashing Hillary and Bill every other day.

Assuming Obama gets the nomination and Matthews is still in his current manic cycle, he might be excited enough to die of a massive heart attack...

...something about the cult figure makes me uncomfortable. The recent lies about not taking lobbyist money and working for Rezko for only 5 hours are beginning to add up.

"This is bigger than Kennedy." :eyes:
"and he seems to have the answers." (Which answer is that? Change or Hope? Or perhaps, the "Now"?)
"This is the New Testament" :wtf:

Empty slogans? Check. Charismatic orator who takes on a messianic aura? Check.
Rallies? Check. Brigades of over-excited youth? Check. Swaggering dismissal of the older generation, and of recent history? Check. A "new" "post-partisan" rhetoric that blames all parties that exist for stalemate and inaction? Check and check. A call for some kind of nebulous "unity" to bind the nation together? Check. Disatisfaction with the complexity and compromises necessary in democracy to get things done? Check.

The New Testament??? An entry into Jerusalem? Or perhaps, rather, a "March to Rome?"

32. Interesting commentary.

Obama almost seems like a conservative think tank creation, offering the illusion of rebellion when what he's actually inviting is a rebellion against rebellion. In other words, conformity. A far safer outlet for the restlessness of youth than, oh say, the Ron Paul rabble? The 9/11 truthers? In that way Obama serves the purposes of the establishment, actively encouraging young people not to question (to the point of jettisoning an entire generation that did). I guess that's one way to diffuse revolutionary impulses. Serve up a counterfeit revolutionary. Same as it ever was.
