DLC: Should it be disbanded and Al From fired?
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 10:18 PM by HawkeyeX
Or kick out the right-wing fuckwits and bring back the original concept of DLC that Clinton and Gore founded back in '92?

Discuss.

2. No, it should take over the DNC. Like when the state takes over failing schools.

7. How's that working for you - Clinton is right-wing DLC through and Through
and listens to McAuliffe and From.

Failed 17-state strategy.

etc.

9. I don't know why you are comparing a Democratic primary with Howard Dean's failure at DNC?

12. And exactly how did Dean fail?
We solidified the House and won back the Senate in '06. That strategy is definetely Dean's doing and it WORKS.

It's only going to get stronger with Obama following the plan.

13. I am sorry, but 2006 was a disappointment compared to the gains we SHOULD
have and COULD have made. Disenfranchising Florida and MI voters is going to alienate them in the GE.
Howard Dean needs to be replaced ASAP - and I'll bet you Obama would do it too.

24. The reason we didn't get more gains in 2006
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 10:44 PM by newmajority
Is because DLC goons Rahm Emmanuel and Chuck Schumer would only support candidates who supported their vomitous agenda.

11. Its not part of the Democratic Party
Its just another special interest group that happens to have the word in its name.

It will stay alive as long as corporations who want to influence elections give to it.

14. :-) I have a question....
I looked up the DLC and the only photo I found of this so-called Al From was a black and white one from the 50s (it seemed). Is this man in his 90s or what?

And as for an answer to your question, how about a resounding YES? This is what I felt like doing to the computer looking at the DLC website: :argh:

Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 10:25 PM by TexasObserver
He runs it. He essentially owns it.

It's not a public concern. It's a private concern.

The original concept of the DLC was not Clinton or Gore's. It was Al From's, and he created it in 1984-1985.

Should you despise Al From? Absolutely.

21. I was reading a bit about the DLC tonight and I encourage anyone
else who doesn't know what they stand for to do the same:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Leadership_Council

Basically anti-populist, anti-pacifist, anti-universal health care, pro-government tailoring policy to meet corporate interests, pro-war, pro-U.S. Imperialism.

31. ROFL
The real scoop, and your link is to DLC's website?

"Let's just look at the cold, hard facts about the DLC and its record. The DLC has pushed, among other things, the war in Iraq and "free" trade policies, using bags of corporate money to buy enough Democratic votes to help Republicans make those policies a reality. They have chastised anyone who has opposed those policies as either unpatriotic or anti-business -- even as a majority of Americans now oppose the war in Iraq, oppose the DLC's business-written trade deals, and are sick of watching America's economy sold out to the highest corporate bidder. Additionally, in brazenly Orwellian fashion, the DLC has also called its extremist agenda "centrist," even though polls show the American public opposes most of their agenda, and supports much of the progressive agenda." http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0727-32.htm

"This is why the DLC is dangerous. For all their claims of supposedly wanting to help Democrats, they employ people like Marshall Wittman who specifically try to undermine the Democratic Party, even if it means he has to publicly defecate out the most rank and easily-debunkable lies. They reguarly give credence to the right wing's agenda and its worst, most unsupportable lies. They are the real force that tries to make sure this country is a one party state and that Democrats never really challenge the Republicans in a serious way." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-sirota/why-the-dlc-is-so-dangero_b_13640.html

"The Democratic Leadership Council's agenda is indistinguishable from the Republican Neoconservative agenda," http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Kucinich_DLC_agenda_undistinguishable_from_Neocon_0813.html

http://dlcwatch.blogspot.com

"Without a doubt, the DLC is the most fundamentalist organization within the caucus, the most ideologically rigid, and the most destructive to the progressive cause."
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/5/24/1712/23448

"These DLC types are amazing, they really are. Their pathology is unique; they all secretly worship the guilt-by-association tactics of Lee Atwater and Karl Rove, but unlike those two, not one of them has enough balls to take being thought of as the bad guy by the general public."
